Re: 50+

I'm just in the 60+ club [how did that happen!]. The best single thing for me is to surf a longboard when it's small. Just really enjoy the glide & super long rides on 2 foot days but also keeps you very paddle fit. Having to rely on arms only is good thing & if you are jumping to your feet ...

Re: Kneeboard grip

Hello & welcome :D

The easiest to obtain is probably a high density camping mat [about 10 - 12mm]. Use something like Evo-stik 528 impact adhesive to stick it on with.
Island Style used to sell knee pads in SA, might be worth checking out. Some very good kneeboarders down your way too!

i have a scoop deck. it's an absolute dog. i know you also have issues with duckdiving...scoop decks are impossible to get under a wave with the foam left in the nose. Unless the water spills in to the area that has had the foam removed and gives it neutral buoyancy. In a theoretical world this wou...

Thanks Dunc. The photos were to show where you can remove foam from without increasing the chance of bogging. When up & riding you just appreciate the lower centre of gravity. http://www.ksusa.org/Forum/album_showpage.php?pic_id=33603 http://www.ksusa.org/Forum/album_showpage.php?pic_id=33603&am...

Skimming is bad! It makes sense but you've also missed the point. The question is....where does the foam need to be to create the buoyancy required once up & riding & can foam be removed from areas of the board without increasing the tendency to bog. This I answered above - The answer to thi...

Too short is too short when the rail in the front third of the board ceases to meet your requirements. We can only kneel so far back due to fin placement. If you have an upright style you are going to put less weight into the forward rail & can probably surf a slightly shorter board. If you have...

It would depend what the criteria for too long is. From an aesthetic viewpoint I think a board is too long when it appears to flap in front of the rider.
Going the other way, boards shorter than about 5' 6" can make the rider appear cramped. [also dependent on riders size]

So sorry Crox, i only just came onto this thread toward the last couple of pages & only skimmed over the earlier ones, i'll shut up now  Not to worry AB, we all do it. New posters having skimmed can miss out on the salient points & muddy the waters that had been made clear. Unfortunat...

bare beautiful bones of unadulterated design, not competing with the contemporary or concerned with what is, but what is yet to come.

EQ said - "Not repeating myself... reminding you that im not conceding the point until i see proof." We know that 1+1 = 2 .....but we don't need a couple of wooden blocks to visually verify it. The answer to this - "If I took your board & only removed foam from your board that had...

Hi EQ. I'm afraid that doesn't answer the question...& there is a lot of repetition in there....however I've already posted the answers to yours - " If the power source fades to the point at which your board is fully underwater & still somehow gliding along, I salute you sir! I feel tha...

Hi EQ, Unless you can answer this - "If I took your board & only removed foam from your board that had no hydrodynamic effect while riding, in other words that did not get immersed or interact with the water, why would it bog more easily?" Then your post is simply repeating what you ha...

AB you said - "All very interesting, but i love volume. To me it means speed, Speed paddling out speed paddling into waves and speed down the line." I don't think anyone that has posted would dispute the "Speed paddling out speed paddling into waves". The being old bit is part of...
