Uhmmmmmm - yeah, that'd work, sort of. The trick is in the foam selecton vs countours of the board - you may have been looking at the 'neutral axis' thread, which is interesting on these lines. http://jfmill.home.comcast.net/temp/kbdswich.GIF as a notional sketch of such a board. Now, there's severa...

With 14 available blanks, rather than dozens that were available from Clark (http://www.foamez.com/pdfs/CF%20Blank%20Catalog.pdf - save a copy of it while it's still there) , plus varying rockers, etc..... like somebody said recently, the surfboard shapers are gonna have to learn to mow foam, not ju...

Ahmmm- as one who may well be making some of the more confusing statements over on Sways, lets see if I can say it in normal english. Let me know if I get into jargon, etc.... Now, what that is is ( I think ) a fiberglass/epoxy/balsa/epoxy-or-other-adhesive/polystyrene foam board. Balsa is...okay, b...

You know, in over 30 years with a kneeboard, I have never been tempted to be in a contest. Nor, without somebody pointing a gun at my head, will I ever be in one. And I like that just fine. Hell, I'm a kneeboard guy, ya know? And if I gave a flying fill-in-the-blank about what others, most especiall...

Are these wood boards heavier than foam? Seems balsa wood might be just as light. Damn, was about to take a nap, and of course somebody hits the damn doorbell. Oh well, I'm up now..... Clark foam was typically 2-3.5 lbs/cu ft overall, balsa runs around 8 and up. Chambered balsa or some of the more ...

De nada - Clark pretty much owned the market 'cos he was first or close to it with a molded blank and 'cos he ( it seems) was very willing to make a new mold for a new shape-family. Except us, that is. There were lots of rockers available with each blank, but that was so easy it's silly: rip the bla...

Why is it more difficult to make foam blanks that can be customized (Clarks Custom Foam Blanks), as opposed to making generic non-custom blanks ready for glassing? It seems making big foam blanks that can be customized by shapers (like Clarks) would be easier... :? As ( for the moment) Sways is kin...

I was, for a while, the only guy in the area that did epoxy repairs. And, bythe way, the resins of choice areGreg Loehr's stuff, RAKA or System Three. I found, of late, that epoxy boards are really no big deal to fix, providing they're built with a reasonable foam, say with a density greater than a ...

Being lazy, I'll repost something I wrote elsewhere concerning this and somebody asking why Clark didn't relocate: Well, you want to put yourself in Gordon Clark's place for a moment; Let's say you're 70 years old, you've been at this for over 45 years. You have been dealing with the most half-bake...

Hi Quadfin, Gerald and Sabine might be Belgian, I only took my sister's word for them being German and she spent her time down there in something of a haze. Gerald is a great big guy, blonde hair ( in 1992 ) and Sabine is dark haired. Nice folks. Quiet, as I recall - their Panamanian style fish was ...

Ah, while I don't know much about Culebra, I spent a couple weeks on Contadora, maybe a dozen years ago at the tail end of summer ( say, April down there) . First time I had been in Panama, went back a couple times later. The island does need a decent desal plant - when I was last there, they were r...

Maybe some chourico ...

Firsthand experience: i dunno of first 'hand' quite describes it There was a guy a few years back who was salmon fishing off of Monterey on his boat. He had hooked a large fish and was reeling it in. He had the fish alongside and was pulling it on board when a bull sealion surged up and levered its...
