Eric told me about this post this morning. I think what he finds distasteful is ignorant and overtly selfish marine activities. Legality is yet another issue. By the way, we have a lot of fun back here in Florida. Plus - generally speaking - the surfers here seem much less egotistical than our Calif...

Hi kneelingBROTHA - I'm sorry to come on strong... My answer to you may sound pretty silly to the rank & file. First of all, I'm a 53-year-old man. Being a very spiritual Buddhist/Taoist person who grew up in the 6o's and 7o's, I have a simple "total involvement" approach to surfing. I...

Hi, Bud. It's really nice to be able to have a little dialogue with you! That's a great story about Mackenzie! That must've been an awesome ride to behold. A friend, highly placed in the KB world, emailed me a while ago about getting beat up on this forum. The Wave Skater definitely has detractors d...

kneelingBROTHA - Answer to first question: normal waves. Whatever nature dishes out. Two feet... ten feet... whatever. In the real world, real people ride normal, avarage waves. I am one of those real people. Unless I travel to Hawaii, I will never ride a wave like the one pictured above. Hey - I'm ...

kneelingBROTHA - In my experience, people often have a pretty hard time giving up the old and accepting the new. I think this is a case of people using inferior and outdated equipment and getting used to that equipment's performance, and then using that as the standard. The standard bodyboard is now...

Actually, the truth is that Morey had VERY LITTLE to do with Wave Skater. The Wave Skater is the creation of Bruce Blumenfeld. Bruce got Morey superficially involved in the project, and now I'm quite sure that Bruce is - to some degree - sorry about that decision. At this point in time, Tom Morey ha...

I like the provocative nature of the first title. Yes, it revealed a mass interest that deviates from the status quo, which appears to show that KB'ing is NOT in a tailslide...but it is in a tailslide until those who are wired to live the spoonist life are riding spoons. We as humans tend towards en...

Man O War - I think spoon riding will have to one day end up including the competitive angle IF enough people are on them, because a certain percentage of the people will feel the competitive urge. When that happens, THEY'LL figure out the parameters of contestability. In the meantime, spoon gatheri...

SURFER Magazine, Volume 11, Number 6, January 1971, pp. 62-67, in an article entitled, Omni: is this some of the same stuff? Sure looks like it! I see two boards in the old mag that appear identical to two boards posted here. Nice work.

M.O.W. - Boy, you're REALLY in hot water now! Ha ha ha! Go with the flow, bro! The Blackbird is so advanced, like Velo, and boards like this will probably always belong to a small cadre of advanced nervous systems. But, NERVOUS SYSTEMS CAN EVOLVE! Greenough didn't like his when he first rode it. It ...

kneelo_44 - That's what I like: going back...back to the simplicity. It seems that the only things separating now from the "good old days" is that the old cast of characters has gone different directions, and we've gotten older. But, other than that, time in the water is still the same...w...
