Re: speedgun
I got to try out that GPS briefly on a small day at O-side. I think the best I did was a little over 20mph on a closeout. Would love to have checked it out at Natividad last month! Jack You're short-changing yourself Jack. Your fastest speed was 24.0 mph (as I recall, your speeds on other waves wer...

31.5 km/h is 20miles/per hour. that is not any speed record. I think this information was posted here once before, but here's an updated summary of the fastest speeds recorded between 2003 and the present (Note: this data previously posted at the surfermagazine link given at the beginning of this t...

Minimizing sanding dust...
..<snipped...I'm also worried about making a huge mess and having my parents and neighbors complain. I was thinking that wet sanding would cut down the dust but I'd have to use finer grit to wet sand. Maybe that's a good thing, slower with less mistakes...<snipped>... What I do when I build a spoon...

Caveats...
MTB -- No wonder you were tearing your hair. What a post! God bless you. You just saved us a bundle of money and gave us peace of mind too. Just keep in mind that everything I said is based on how my boards function (and the degrees of flex that occur during their usage). One also needs to be caref...

Prev epoxy/fiber reinforcements comments extensively edited
Just a note pointing out that an (approximate) reconstruction of the comments I intended to make in my earlier post now appears there (replacing my whining about IE crashing).

Epoxy...and some off-topic comments on fiber reinforcements.
…The great thing about polystyrene is that you can hotwire any shape you like into it once set up Please tell me how to do this! I’d love to be able to carve the bowl on the nose of many of my boards, spoon out the deck, shape the thumb grips, and carve out the kneewells with a hot wire and EPS foa...

Just relooking at photos of MTBarrels oldies and most have central torsion bar stopping short of tail end leaving some longitudinal flex in last few inches.?.?.?.?.? MT? MOW (Your's goes to the tip of the tail?)? There is quite a bit of glass (e.g. 10 layers of 7.5 oz 90/10 unidirectional cloth) ov...

Re: spoonists
Weights or no weights - Terry tells me my GPS speed record (24 mph) has been broken. Someone give me a spoon - I feel the need for speed! Jack Bigger waves than you had would probably help also. At the present time: Current max speed measured (shortboarder): 26.9 mph Current max speed for a kneeboa...

Re: spooned
Spoonists, I've never riden one but here's a thought - there are now small GPS systems that will record your fastest speed during your session. How about a bunch of guys paddle out at nice point break and the one with the fastest speed wins? No judges/jerseys necessary and GPS doesn't lie. Any tube...

SURFER Magazine, Volume 11, Number 6, January 1971, pp. 62-67, in an article entitled, Omni: is this some of the same stuff? Sure looks like it! I see two boards in the old mag that appear identical to two boards posted here. Nice work. Yup. You're right (good memory and powers of observation tumak...
