Not getting cramps these days...(knock on wood)
Good suggestions here, but I have found a new ally - arm power. I have moved forward on my board and use long deep arm strokes almost exclusively to access waves and rarely use my flippers now, except for trim and minor assistance. This is a breakthrough for me and I am considering go flipperless. I...

It amazes me where this thread has gone. Almost 3000 hits that started with a very simple question. I can't help but wonder why. One of the most attractive things about kneeboarding is that is not mainstream, it currently has the counterculture edge that stand-up surfing used to have, and it is fill...

There's a lot of truth and experience in all those comments - grateful for all that. After reading and thinking, a thought comes to mind: If you've ever had bacon and eggs, the chicken was involved but the pig was committed. So, I'm gonna be the pig and commit - suck it up and pay my dues without th...

Attempting going flipperless...suggestions?
Flippers rule for catching waves, as I feel like I can access almost any wave I go for. But I'd love to be successful without them - for many obvious reasons. Has anyone else made the transition? Without flippers, unfortunately, I feel powerless in the water, but I'd love to give up their drag, walk...

You guys are too much. I laughed so hard I had an accident  . No shortage of ribald humor, that's for sure. Thanks for the invitations, insults and suggestions...it's all good and we certainly need more humor in this too-serious world. O-side sounds nice, but I think I'll practice at the home b...

Surfing doggie-style
Here's a comment/question for you more experienced KBers out there. I recently swithched my "style" and I know I'm faster and make better turns than I did before. My question is, am I doing this wrong? I used to pop up and surf like a stand-up sawed off at the knees. On small waves I would...

Lessons Learned: 1) Never use words you do not understand (e.g. wanker/tosser). For a full understanding, check out: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=A+-+Tosser 2) When surfers paddle into a swimming only area and you want them to leave, paddle into their midst (while smiling) on a bri...

Adapt or Perish?
I walked out to my local break late on an always-crowded Sunday (MB Jetty). The water was a balmy 70 F, sun out, light offshores, 4-6 foot faces with good form and a southerly swell wrapping around the jetty. Counting surfers, the number climbed from 32 to 42 in about 10 minutes. :( Bad News! No... ...

Drowning ruins all the fun
Surfing Sunset Cliffs after Big Wednesday, I noticed a lot of lobster buoys bobbing in the water. As much as I tried to avoid them, I noticed my leash coming very close to them as I would pass over them. Their knotty, ragged, kelp-infested arms seemed to reach for me in the 57 degree water. ...

Do "magic boards" exist?
Bud, :D I really appreciated yor response regarding Steve Boehne Of Infinity and his contribution to the sport of surf riding and kneeboard shapes (see Thinning Out the Quiver in the Used Boards Forum) over the last 30 some years. I dare say you have legendary status in the surfing community, and de...
