Kandui is a must-do trip. Been there twice and it can't be beat... period. I haven't been back since they opened the second place on the island, but I would go to the original again in a heartbeat. Ray knows his way around the islands with the swell & the winds, and you will always get waves. I ...

I bought a single fin Petrillo from Frank at the frog house when I was just a maggot... walked across the street, and I was hooked. Now I don't know any better.

If a board floats you and feels good under you, the best thing you can do is experiment a little with the fins... cheapest and best knowledge you can get first hand. Over the years they used to be glass-on & it took a little more doing to try different setups, but fin placement is even more impo...

I think it depends as much on your surfing style as anything. I went from Cleary's single fin double wing swallow of the late 70's to a double wing squash thruster in the 80's to a quad double wing squash from the late 80's on, with several bottom contours & rockers mixed in each of the template...

I used one of those w/ the velcro straps. It worked excellent.

early & mid 70's there was a guy that would show up once in a while at riverjetties that had one arm. He had a handle of glassed in marine rope horizontally across the nose of his board and he did just fine. He actually was fun to surf around. We liked him out there and would jam for him to make...

same here.... I found a brace made out of wetsuit material with reinforced sides & velcro straps to tighten it in place. It was either 3 or 4 mil. I got me out in the water after I was sure there was no bad damage.

I've always used the Maytag Rule. Anyone out in the water getting compared to looking like a Maytag is probably doing it wrong.

that looks like pretty good information. I had a thruster with a proven template and proven bottom in the sense it was a design I'd refined through different shapers over a ten-15 year period. I rode the board & it was a pig, and it sat in the rafters brand new for about four years. After breaki...

quit sniveling and get it done, then do the physical therapy like a mad man. The only pain that lingered a little was on leg extensions under a load when it was extending through the position the knee was in while the surgery was done. Internal scarring I guess. It didn't affect surfing at all once ...

I put my pads as close to the rails as I can without causing drag. I sand the edges of my pads so they are really thin (1/8"-1/4") on the outside edges. I do the same, and feather 'em all the way down to paper thin on the edge. Then I work wax all around to seal it and keep it from workin...
