so much better than anything I have read in a 'surfing mag'.

They are more expensive as they take longer to build, but if you were doing it yourself, price is not that different to pu/pe. Can build them real stiff too if thats what you like!! I can't tell you how impressed I have been with this construction method, my first one, built 18 months ago still has ...

Thats one of the plus points of vacuum formed balsa sandwich eps core boards. Knee wells are a thing of the past (ok if you don't like them, if you do then shape them in!) same goes for the dings in the bottom.
Loads of flex if you build em right.

Loads of breaks in southern Portugal, also around Cadiz in Spain (better in winter I believe)
Morocco in October should be awsome, but so is th e west coast of Portugal if you like a bit of size and cool water. Wannasurf is a good source, as would be stormriders guide to europe book.
cheers

K-man Anything can be built if you have the time and inclination, I would agree with Zorro that 3 piece would be better. You would have to accept that the flex would probably be awful, but how about having the rear section solid glass as in a spoon, so that at least you would have a flex tail. I rec...

Thanks to mr Burger and Swaylocks, this is how I have been making boards for the last year or so (see my eps/ balsa boards in the archives). Anyone interested should check out the Vacuum forming and sandwich construction thread in the Swaylocks archives. There are certain challenges involved in buil...

fin positions for quad

I am have taken the fins off one of my boards with the intention of changing from a tri to a quad. Reason? I have never ridden a quad and there seems to be much discussion on this site regarding the differences, so want to find out for myself. The board is an aussie style tri, 5'11" x 23" ...

Hi Shelfbreak I seem to have missed this thread, so sorry it has taken so long to reply to it. My balsa sandwich kneeboards have been totally inspired by Bert Berger of Sunova fame, being in oz, he would be my first port of call but from what I gather they are only building boards for pro's at prese...

If the board is made with less than 2ib density eps, it should have a vent fitted as per windsurf boards. Moulded epoxy boards don't have them because they saturate the eps with resin when they mould them reducing the risk of delam, but at the same time adding weight and reducing flex. Doc has it ri...

I have been using DC Clones for the past year or so, no more foot cramps (ever) ,much less calf cramp, loads more thrust than churchills, soft'ish foot pocket and stiff blades. Used duckfeet a few years ago but cramped too much to keep them. I love my Clones, has anyone else used them? I was toying ...

OK mtb I was probably getting a bit over excited, I know that epoxy and carbon are not New materials, neither is balsa. What I am thinking of is extending the flexible eps core, balsa sandwich skin concept to its natural conclusion as a spoon! As for hotwiring eps, you can cut any shape as long as y...

Thanks mtb, that is a pretty concise explanation. Epoxy resin may be more expensive, burt has so many advantages over polyester, with the boards that I have been building I use so much less resin that the cost is comparible. With a flex spoon in mind, the resin tends to be more flexible, but will no...
