Re: Technique for generating speed on gutless waves?

So it turns out the solution to my woes was getting a Stub Vector quad from Blast/Bud (he actually sold me his personal board back in December, thank you so much Bud!). WOW. I have NEVER had a board with this much drive and that is so easy to paddle. Have gotten into so many more waves since picking...

Re: knee board shape

Hey y'all, Checking back in on this thread. Brought my quad to the local shaper (who spends the winters in SoCal shaping with legit folks there, otherwise Maine isn't a great homegrown shaper's growth place), he thought the rear fin boxes were way too closer to the rails. To his point, on bigger sur...

Re: Technique for generating speed on gutless waves?

Welcome "Kneelo Maine" . The red Blast in your quiver shot looks familiar, is that the one that Scott from San Jose CA put up for sale maybe back in 2013 ? It is indeed! Not a board I take out often but when the swell peaks for a day or two here that board comes to life and shreds! Now ju...

Re: Technique for generating speed on gutless waves?

Yank the trailing fins off and try it as a twin. I did that A few years back and it really helped me learn to use my rails. It did not transform my surfing but gave me something to do besides think how bad the waves were. It took the fun level up and made me look forward to my next wave. Cool! Yeah...

Re: Technique for generating speed on gutless waves?

Thanks for the feedback, all! Good stuff. I'm alright about staying up high on the wave, struggle taking off behind the peak though with limited success racing back out in front. Also realize that by not being able to wail your body around like a stand up surfer, expectations for generating speed in...

Technique for generating speed on gutless waves?

Hey y'all, kneelo here up in the frozen north of Maine. Getting back more into the water after a few years in Utah/Wyoming. So, majority of days are knee-chest high surf without much power or form in the waves. Still, see a small group of stand up surfers on tiny board getting awesome rides chopping...

Re: Catch Surf or foamies

Anybody had any experience to share on these? Looked at a Torpedo last night, TONS of volume and super wide. Seems like it could do the trick in our crap east coast powerless under chest high days even if it's not going to carve like a fully railed board.
