Good Mex Food

I ran a mexican restaurant as the chef for seven years and I'll trade a stay in Australia for all the mexican grinds that you can handle. Homemade everything. My chile rellenos with tomatillo salsa are killer, and an old woman in Michoacan taught me her style of tamales with fresh mole sauce... To D...

softer duck feet

Thanks beeline. Always looking for ways to surf more comfortably. Unfortunately my feety are 9 1/2 EEEEE. (With feet like that what the heck do I need fins for?) Currently I duct tape my second and third toe on each foot and also wrap my knuckles closest to my foot to prevent severe foot chafing. Th...

Softer duck feet

A while back some of you were talking about a softer model of duck feet swim fins, and a number was posted to contact the Voit company to place an order. When I contacted Voit they said that they do not have softer fins and have never heard of the "custom model" duck feet with the softer m...

Yes I have felt the "fin boost" feeling. I make my own boards, (quads and tri fins) and design my own fins. I'm always tinkering with fin placement. This is what I have now. The board that I find to be the most versitile is my 5'10" quad. The foreward fins are at 16" from the tai...

Hi tsenn, I just put together a 5'10" rounded pintail quad and I chose the futures set up. I use all glass fins that are from The Rainbow Fin Company just south of Santa Cruz Ca. My foreward fins are the R-6, 4.75" tall with a 4.5" base and the rear fins are the R-4, 4.25" tall w...

Yea Bud, Let's put on our surgical gear and rip into some old delapidated surfboards/sailboards/ longboards. It's alot of fun taking apart old boards and making something old new again. And you might come across a cool design or technique in the process, who knows. At any rate theese kind of recycli...

Yea alot of shapers over the years have gotten a little spoiled with all of the close tollerance blanks keeping their shaping times down. However with a little extra effort and resourcefullness you can obtain the materials to make great boards. And you CAN get almost exact shapes, It just takes a li...

Recycle those old boards

While everybody is in shock about the closure of Clark foam I'm surprised that the subject of surfboard recycling hasn't surfaced. Today at the local landfill I picked up a Doug Haut shaped Sail board. This 1985 board is made with Clark foam, is a 9'6" winged pintail that is 4" thick 24&qu...

Clark blanks

I just picked up 2 6'9"A blanks with custom redwood triple stringers for my new KB projects. From the looks of things I guess that makes me the lucky winner. And what about companys like Rainbow fin company? Those guys use lots of polyester resin, I wonder how they will fare through all of this...

Tri fin placement

This question is for all of you tri fin riders, Where exactly do you have your fins mounted and what are the height and length of your fins? I realize that the fin location has alot to do with the length and the tail template of the board but your thoughts on the matter, or some figuers would be gre...

Hey Haedwax, I have been surfing so much that It's been 3 weeks since I've been on line. So how did your board come out? Last I heard you had the first lam on it. I kind of figuered that you've been riding it instead of yapping on line. I have four new ones this year. Three traditional quads and one...

Talk about poor surf, Usually we get some big winter swells and the beaches start to produce good surf in September or October. Like last year, we get swells with 15' faces and they're gone tomorrow. Just enough to rip up the kelp and start the rotting process in the water producing coffee colored w...

Hi Andrew, I think that the availability issue of the clark foam blanks is just a regional thing. It would be hard for me to get Dion blanks or othor aussie blanks here in California. As it would be difficult for you to get blanks made in the USA in Auatrailia. Although you could probbly order one, ...

Hi Headwax, Just got done making a new round of boards for this winter and I may have some useful info. I don't use dion blanks myself I use clark foam 6'9"A blanks in green density. Part of the reason for the big blanks is my rockers and thicknesses don't fit in the kneeboard 6'2"C blanks...
