Re: Compsand Flexspoon

Check out what this guy is doing with sheet cork. http://californiasurfcraft.com I've done some test riding for him, and I've talked about making a knee flex spoon, but he knows the market is tiny for that. The way he's getting stiffness is single ply layers of glass between layers of cork. Playing ...

Re: 70's flex spoon, fin questions and restoration

Hello Hansel Welcome to the flex spoon world. If you search for posts you should be able to get some discussions on flex spoons. I would suggest not using a bolt on the fin. Because the board flexes and the fin doesn't (in the direction at least) the point where they connect will experience high str...

Yeah, those lines are what I got using tape. The 50-grit surface didn't hold tape well so there was leaking under it, it is hard to tape curves, and the paint I was using doesn't release from the tape. Instead it wants to peal with the tape and lift more paint with it. If I did it over I would use s...

Flex Spoon Reboot

It's been awhile, but recent events have stoked my interest in my spoon kneeboard. It sat for a long time needing layers sanded off to allow more flex. I got around to it last week and put it in the water for some of the mixed swell at OB. Waves weren't great for testing the flex, but I got a few bo...

Ocean Beach is the only place I've ever surfed where you might here this conversation.
Guy1 "Oh hey, how was it yesterday?"
Guy2 "I never made it out, tried for 45 minutes."
Guy1 "Yeah, looked big."
With Guy1 not giving Guy2 any hassle.

SFKneelo, where you out at OB? I watched it for 5 hours on Saturday, and 3 on Monday and never saw anything among the ragged closeouts that tempted me to go surf. The north end looked the cleanest, which is where I spent most of my time trying to motivate. It was a dry 3-day weekend for me.

They should have pulled into the closeout barrel. Or blasted the lip, or something... (kidding, of course.)

The closest thing I found to a surf shop in SLO town was Moondoggies, but I didn't even walk in. To much confusion in my plans kept me from getting even a glimps of the ocean since I didn't find free time until noon, and by then the wind was howling through town. I took a hike around Bishop's Peak, ...

Where to check around SLO April 8 and 9th?

Hey Mid-Coast CA KBers. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions of where to check for surf around SLO this weekend. Surf is forecast to be big 12sec NW wind swell with NW winds. I'm considering checking the south side of Morro Rock or somewhere around Avila to escape the raw, the size, and the wind....

To anyone with a girlfriend or wife who is willing to sit on the beach and film your surfing, APPRECIATE IT.

The closest I've ever gotten to this was cameos in friend's videos with their girlfriends filming.

Here's one vote for Puerto Escondido in the off season. My friend went years ago during the peak season and got "skunked" by massive waves and two broken boards. I went in the "off" season and got 4-8' over a few days and had fun. Not classic Puerto, but I got waves without the f...

I was between Kirkham and Lawton this morning and had a great time. So good I went in to eat and then paddled back out without taking off the wetsuit. Size was about 4-6' and I didn't have trouble dodging the closeouts, but I DID have trouble staying in one place. The peak I liked best had current f...

Is it worth the drive?

I've been worn out and sick for the last three weeks. Now I'm feeling good again and there is a swell due to hit California. I'll be near Santa Cruz for the weekend but I'm imagining it will be very, very crowded. I'm tempted to make a long drive for something better. I'm thinking Rincon, but would ...
