mmm interesting stuff...Recently I broke out my middle fin on a nasty rock while paddling out, and apart from finding new and inventive ways to wipe-out was amazed at how quick the board felt with only 2 fins, like the proverbial cake of soap in the bathtub. So Im toying with going for a 5fin setup ...

My 2c.... I tend to scavenge odd/demo fin sets from the surf shops & play with those, that way you end up with a variety of fin sizes etc. Also if youre a scrooge like me  you can usually haggle a good price. If you then lose a fin (Ilost 4 in 1 horrible week recently) its not such a disast...

Distance = East London to J Bay = 350 km max
Month = May = start of winter = cold fronts = swell
Solution = Drive down to J Bay whenever you can, could be a life-changing experience ! :D

cheers

Yeah Quadfin & others, KSUSA has been an invaluable source of info as well as helping to keep the stoke alive for a lotta guys (& gals) who are maybe a bit off the beaten track! On the southern tip of Africa we only have a few kneelos, so: I often am the only kneelo out; I only got 1 kneelo ...

Well-put SF  I reckon how you paddle into a wave depends on how the wave is approaching - at "my" spot the wave stands up nicely as it approaches with a lon(ish) wall and makes a bit of a wedge too. So....if youre in the sweet spot (& on the inside :D ) then the pop&go techni...

How often do you surf?

My 50c worth...Generally the standard of kneeboarding is good - kneelos are more dedicated than the average standup, so work hard at improving waveriding skills, fitness and local spot knowledge. All this helps to boost your position in the pecking order :D Bide your time in the lineup & when yo...

after losing the garage to the wifes small business running a nursery school, I had to resort to 2 barstools and the back garden - worked best late arvo when the sun was low & windy days dispersed the dust cloud !

bar stools were handy for a quick beer afterwards...

Aha  Board volume is not necessarily linearly proportional to body mass! Have to chew a bit on that one. Interestingly I found out that how a board paddles is not only a question of volume. My previous board, I tried to maximise the rocker up near the nose, and it paddled like a VERY BAD WORD....

I used to surf beachbreaks mostly & was (fairly) happy going left and right (not at the same time..;-) Last 5 yrs ive exclusively surfed a left pointbreak, which being a leftie feels like my forehand side & I think subconciously my stance has adjusted so I face the wave slightly. Im in JBay ...
