what you say makes sense AB and Tomway - particularly as we of the knees can't stomp on the back foot like the stand-ups. seems to me that a flex kneeboard needs a much longer flex panel than stand-ups. "You're a lucky man to have an outer island. Mitchell Rae has to be in the top 10 shapers of...

Bruce - sort of except the v is more so and exits around the forward fin - presumably giving more flex in the rear. very interesting board by the way - not sure my smal brain could cope with an assymetric board. AB - "cheap" - I guess its a comparative thing - cheaper than the usual labour...

poor man's flexie

I noticed the other day that Mitchell Rae from Outer Island, the aussie flextail legend, has been making boards with two stringers. Each travels from the nose to around the forward fin in an upsidedown "V". he says this gives rigidity to the forward 2/3's and a degree of flex to the rear 1...

safe fins

Bummer - tendons don't heal quickly. I used pro-Tecs for a bit. great idea ( edges are soft plastic) but the main body plastic was too soft to give strong flex and eventually broke on the reef one day. I didn't replace them. a quick 5 min rub with wet and dry on your trailing edge means less leash n...

its a spectacular achievement by any yardstick. and in a sport with a relatively wide global coverage and now a huge financial payback which sucks a huge number of wannabe's into the gene pool of potential challengers. just think through the incredible list of top surfers that he has seen off during...

this is a hard one. we've all checked out some old photos on this site posted from scanned mags. steen and slats and others do a great job in feeding us eye candy on a regular basis. I'd always assumed that you gave up hope of money once you put your image on the web. maybe you need something more e...

"I've maintained for years that what's needed is someone with a more aggressive approach on a kneeboard out there. Not sure how much longer I'm going to continue to try this.....perhaps it's time to pass the baton. " ahhhh...hmmmm...where is it? bugger me, the bloody dog's eaten my baton.....

Guys - it doesn't look like a knee board to me in the photos. It looks like a DHD stand-up - maybe about 6'10. sad news. The fact that he would have lost a lot of blood swimming back to the rocks and didn't get hit again re-inforces the idea that the shark had a taste and was not impressed. if they ...

samoa

shane - I lived in samoa for 3 years - awesome surf. this is the season to go as samoana has pretty much the run of it. the tsunami knocked out the competitors so no boat loads of competing frothers at boulders - its nice to be able to pick your waves when it gets solid - not sure if keith's place a...

another top effort - congrats. those Ponsford ski tails are a trip - they surfed well but just look so wrong... and remember Ware's "Don't be a bore...surf four..." lucky he was a much better shaper than a poet. little leading fins with a large twinnie back fin and then Dale's ski tail act...

my surfing always haywire...I wonder what it would do for me...at $90, I'll have to wait till we finally get to surf together and I'll do a swap in the water with you with my hippy wood veneer Parkes. hope you've got those wicked purple ones - they'll match my extremities in winter. or maybe put the...

AB probably not if it inspired you.... but Granite is still responsible for some of the best waves and the closest to drowning experience I've ever had. a good smack in the head on the inside section at low tide  and I just went limp - quite happily - and sort of thought - this is it and just d...
