Started body boarding then. In the early 80's all the kneelos were ripping and the stand ups were still on single fins and not doing much. Twinnies just coming in on standup boards. Chose kneeboards instead and never looked back..

Yes. Tom Kendall got the South end on Sat. morning with swell building fast. Paul Wuslich surfed Sat through Tuesday (Still DOH on Tuesday, but seemed small by comparison, by then) Paul surfed the south end on first two days and then the middle on the last two. I use them on days I don't surf. Long bike ride followed by 10 minutes of kettle bells. Great stuff!!!


Make sure you squat into downswing so you do not hurt your back.

6 foot for small surf and beach break with lots of people
8 foot for big surf

Use leash as little as possible and if you do use it, stay under water until well after you feel it go slack.

Was watching US Olympic Swim Trials on TV and saw a Froghouse t shirt on deck between races. Froghouse, Newport Beach, I have heard, has been supportive of kneelos over the years. I am 6'5" 250lbs. I ride a 6 foot swallow tail fish by 23 inches, and 2.5 inches thick Flatter rocker with slight concave going into V near the tail. It is a basic board that works in everything, small to big, mushy to hollow. Great starting board. Have been riding since '84. Started on boards ...

When it gets bigger, it spreads everyone out. I usually do not surf it when it is small.
