Pleasure Point is a fun 4'-5' with well overhead waves every couple of sets. Broke my old habit and KB'ed at 38th Ave. - Longboard Land. Big, peeling walls and super long rides w/ fast sections. Waves are showing all along the coast to Capitola and even south of that. High tide is about 5:30 at 4.8 ...

I do have one, Ska-baby. My old blue 'n yellow dive mat. And a rash guard to wear with it.

I did ride a prototype mat from Greenough back in 1985-86 during a macker winter swell on the north side of the HB pier. Probably not the best call on my part.

I believe that photo of the early Hawaiian board is of a belly board. We have a similar board in the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum. Nothing yet if it was ever ridden on knees.

Sharks in the Water

Four of us from our organization, the Santa Cruz Surfing Club Preservation Society, took a group of 10 lawyers surfing yesterday morning at Cowell's yesterday morning. The law firm is representing our club pro bono in a trademark infringement case. So, quid pro quo. What a scene: 2'- maybe 3'- slow ...

county line

Was in SoCal visiting my grandsons for 2 days and caught County Line both Weds & Thurs AM at about 3'-4'. Some fun sections. Surfed with my standup buddy who lives at the top of Coral Canyon. He kept saying "You can standup on that thing" (my 6'0" 5 fin). So, on one wave, I jumped...

I also built a knee skate in the 1970's with 4, Bennet Rpo trucks (8 wheels).
Didn't ride it that much since I skated pools on a normal' board and a slalom board.

For a little over $100 one can pick up a device from Sony that turns VHS into DVDs. My friend Harry Mayo, 85 y/o pioneering surfer here in Santa Cruz, bought the device and is converting his VHS tapes. If an 85 y/o can do it, so can you.

Don't be too quick to count our Rainbow Fins' experience. Tom McKnight started Rainbow Fins back in the '69/'70 area (I may be wrong on the date by a year or two). He was next door to Freeline's factory so we were able to have any design fins cut that we dreamed up. We were riding 2, different finle...

From the description- 5'0" with thick nose/rails- the board is probably late 60's early 70's period. Not the best to learn on - goes straight really well but one needs a powerful, barreling wave to make it work.

A modern board is the way to go.... a quad 5'8" - 6'0".

Finally had good surf here. Its been small but The Lane went to 4'-5' oil glass about 11AM with only a handful of people in the water. 2 people in a small outrigger canoe caught one wave off the Slot.

Nice board - that shape would really work here.
