thanks for the validation Kenneth. As usual posting online in retrospect I kinda feel like a jerk and was mostly kinda kidding. Who am I to tell people not to have fun the way they choose? And the one Beresford almost pulls on the video on the front page at 4:10 is pretty rad since it's part of a de...

oy vey that cutback into sliding 360 thing ...

Not that I haven't dropped a few of these myself in my day, but even when good kneeriders do them I cringe. You know what I mean? The start a cutback and then keep sliding around instead of coming roundhouse off the whitewash? It just looks so lame and gimmicky (unless one is airborne when it happen...

missed it, and now six alternates already! I didn't think there were 64 kneeboarders left on the planet. Next year I'll have to get my s&!t together sooner ....

who is this?

I'd say it was me in the the mid 90's given the long red hair and the similarly sized board, but then again I've never surfed in South America and am probably not as good, so there's a chance it's someone else :)

I face the wave going right. Backside or switch stance going left depending on type of wave. About an inch to two inches for the knee differences. Bob! Switch stance! Brilliant. I'm going to move my front knee back two inches sometimes and then gloriously claim that I'm pulling all kinds of maneuve...

Lefty thanks for this, probably solves the mystery. A lot of the difference might be predicated by how power comes through the twisting of the upper body, like how one can punch harder with the dominant hand. Good thinking!

do you have a frontside and backside?

Sorry if this has come up in the past. I do, am regular foot stand up surfing and feel the same frontside/backside differences knee riding, not to the same intensity as stand up, but way more than one might intuit given my leading knee is only 1.5 inches farther forward than the "back" kne...

Crox I'm not an engineer or anything so there's something I think I'm not understanding. Doesn't lack of slope on the face of a wave make all boards bog eventually? If a wave backs off until it's flat eventually any board is going to bog. But why wouldn't the same exact shape except twice as thick g...

Hank, I went with foiled rails (Brewer) and a flat deck on my main boards. You don't have to lose the volume in the middle to foil rails. yeah I'm using the term foil in a sloppy way. Let's swap boards for a few waves the next time we cross paths - should be interesting as they're almost exact oppo...

Red if we're dividing up balls between Phil and I he gets 3 and 7/8's and I get what's left over :) It was spooky enough for me just nibbling around the edges all alone. And then in a day or so Mark Foo died in similar size and it landed home that trifling with that place was a bad idea. Never went ...

Re: Volume

Boards over 22+ are pigs and don't paddle for &%$@, not if they are foiled right and the volume is on the stringer or center of the board. Yep. I need to foil out my next board a little bit more and still keep volume on the stringer. My worry about that with my current board was that you end up...

crappy scans of crappy prints but it was a good day and no one surfing. The only person I saw the whole time was right before I drove away one guy drove up to check it out - pretty sure it was Ken Bradshaw but only guessing from seeing his picture in magazines. I miss that time on the Central Coast,...

fwiw to me less volume surfs better and feels more alive but surfing is the total experience and I'll give up a little performance to be able to catch more waves and glide through the doldrums more easily, not bog at the top when a wave backs off on a snap, float higher out of the frigid water up he...
