If you turn Duckfeet upside down, they are a size bigger. This works for most fins.

Anyone know of a fin that has a flexible blade as opposed to todays' really stiff ones?

By initiating turns with the hips I did not mean butt or hip wagging. I am talking about weighting and unweighting and exploding out of turns.

The hips lead all great athletic movements. If you get them into position to lead the turn, then the turn will be quick and powerful. Knee positon on the board may affect the ability to use hip power. It seems to me that people who surf both lefts and rights all the time do not have the same problem...

Watching Simon stand up at the end of his waves in his movies seems to say the board is a little too loose for standing up as it looks like he has to be real careful with it when riding it. A topic not addressed so far is if "monkey boy" wants to stand up and knee on the same board do the ...

I have noticed this for years. People who ride with their back to the wave have great cut backs. People that face the wave, when they ride, tube ride well. If the outside knee (the one away from the wave) is even half an inch ahead of the inside knee it allows you to open your hips and face the wave...

Red,

Over here, we hear that all the boards are 6'5" or bigger over there.

What you say makes good sense.

Great posts...full of info. and opinions with out the close mindedness and confrontation. Anyone remember the flashback part of Simon's movie; the beer comercial with Peter Crawford, I think, doing floaters on that little single fin with the fin way forward. Was that a slab? It seems to have been a ...

Parkes' son in SURFER MAG:

Parkes board in SURFER Mag. Aug. 2007.

Page 88: Parkes' son, I am assuming.
Also, P. 80 holding Aussie flag, judging by the hair color.

Looks like he rips.

Very interesting. I started this post/discussion for a few related reasons. First, my new board has a multiple fin set up and I took the trailing fin out on a small day and it became a totally different board. Second, while discussing that day's surf with my shaper, he said that when you remove the ...

Simon and the Simpsons are one thing. Most of us are not "them". It is the other people who are surfing without much drive out of their turns. The footage I saw was from the beach. I guess it boils down to: No board will do everything. Pick the best board and fin placement for your style a...
