Fun waves last PM from a north windswell that blew up after a front passed through. The evening sessh saw chest+ on the sets, and some longish walls. The bars behind the rental cottage are in nice shape. Capesurf has hurricane swell prediction down to a science, and his charts say the Igor swell sho...

Mike, Just sent you a PM; All the models show Hurricane Igor tracking up the coast late next week, classic Cape Verde storm, staying offshore, probably see a swell by Thursday. Nothing but wind swell until then (last year wind swell was solid head high all week). Still waiting on my nephews to let m...

Amazing how exact the forecast was for this storm. Years ago they would have evac'd all of NC down to the SC border. They called the path spot on, and the damage was slight. Mike, I heard they arrested and fined somebody for surfing in OC yesterday? Wtf was that? Were you trying to join Paris in the...

Jimi,
Sounds good, plan to stay over at least a few days. I'd like to pick your brain on shaping- just getting started again after a 30 year layoff.

Hatteras Gathering Sept. 11-18

I have a beach house rented again this year for Sept. 11-18 in Buxton, four lots from the ocean (near 'Motels')(Bruce, thanks for the tip!). Officially sleeps six, but there a couple of couches and always the floor (groms get the floor). Runs less than $100 per day this time of the year, so the more...

Hey Scott,
We could have told you there was no surf before you came all the way over

I'll be in Newark DE (@ University of DE) Friday, maybe we could get a beer after work if you're still around.

Cheers,
Doug

Sea surface temps are at historic highs in the Atlantic, just waiting for the tropical wave train off the Sahara to start up in about a month. Should be a good year for waves and a scary year for property owners.

Electrolyte tablets (Mg and K, sometimes including Ca) work, but take longer. Electrolytes dissolved in sport drinks work faster, but often contain sugar- that's why I like the SmartWater. My wife rides horses, had nightly leg cramps, and swears by it. I drink a bottle before paddling out and before...

frankfqr, Probably not an issue if you're just drinking it in tonic water (I do- with gin, tho) , but stay away from the products available over the web for leg cramps - they can cause serious side effects and worse. Google "quinine side effects" and you'll get plenty of info. My mom almos...
