Another great book is "Waves and Beaches" by Willard Bascom.
It explains waves of all sorts, tsunamis, wind waves, tides, etc...
A little on the technical side but great pictures too!

EVER? With this last SW swell direction SHORES WAS HOLLOW, with a lot of closeouts. Yes it's USUALLY soft beachbreak, and have to go towards Scripps pier for a little better conditions. This past week, especially last Sunday, just the opposite, the pier was flat and shores was firing  They're ...

I've had my rounds pounded there (L.J. Shores) for about 4 of the last 6 days. I don't know if I would call a lot of them A frames unless you see in fast forward. Kind of strange conditions/swell direction at the Shores, long lulls, then a couple fairly large hollow shorepounders then another...

flashpoints
Please excuse the random babble but, Does anyone "stock" any flashpoints in SoCal? I've actually been seeing more and more kneelos and positive interest in kneeboarding from standups in the water lately (Scripps area). :D Some groms have even offered trades for my "sic" fish.

I guess I'm one of the few NOT scoring any waves lately. I usually go before work at Scripps pier, since it's just a hop, skip, and jump from my office, but it's been flat from the pier all the way down to Shores. This morning looks like some west wind swell is coming in a little here but stil...

Notice the wax on the rails.

I need 12 beers please
Then I'll take the 12 steps, well no I won't unless I'm grabbing a rail.

Sunset Surfboards in Encinitas
Tim Bessell shaped me my first KNEEBOARD this past summer. He seemed to me a little surprised when I ordered a kneeboard at first but told me his brother kneeboard(s)(ed)? A 5'10" fish with a red fade and extra glass on top! It also has hard rails, and a deep swallow tail. I'll post pics when I...

niuhi grips
I got a Niuhi pad too. It is pretty thick, with a nice beveled edge, grips very well, and doesnt retain much water even compared to the thinner pad I have on my other board. Mahalo Ed.
