Well, the way I see it (some may agree, others may not) do you like what you ride? Do you like the way you surf? Do you enjoy your water time? do you care what others think of the board you ride? Then do what you want, and don't get caught up in trends. WE ARE KNEEBOARDERS AFTER ALL Max Not sure wh...

Hey "Bob", Baden's longest board was an 8'2" But his short board was ab 6'6", so its all relative. I think this discussion of length dovetails nicely from the volume Thread. MaxB said he's 6ft and over 200lbs and rides a 5'8"... and that sounds about right, but...

in my opinion width can take the place of thickness That's very true, Max... But what you also have working in your favor is your boards are very flat. The lack of rocker keeps your boards from plowing. (The original Lis Fish's were also very flat and fast.) Once you introduce rocker to a board, yo...

Ships have sails or engines. Waves are a power source that fluctuates. When that power source fades the board sink. KNEEBOARDS DONT FLOAT MOST GUYS. They are sinking up to their chests when they sit on them. So your analogy counters your point. Boards do not float these guys in flat water. Mine now ...

Crox- in my experience that just isn't true. I've had 30 years of riding boards with the foam removed under my knees and chest. Boards lose speed on the shoulder or in flats spots. Don't make sections. They surfed perfect waves really well. Just not typical waves for where I live. I'd love to have s...

 Really Joe? You cherry pick a shot of Wes in a smoking Indo barrel? Does anything NOT work in waves like that? 8) BTW, this guy rides the barrel pretty well too. Rides a board with full volume. [albumimg]33478[/albumimg] Wanna compare photos of guys on thin boards and guys on full boards doing...

Crox- "to transfer power you need stability and a low center of gravity". So true! At 6'4", I have never had a low center of gravity until I started riding boards +25" wide. Knees are farther apart, butts lower, more stable. However, and thin 25" wide board would be a plow. ...

Crox- Volume 100% helps me surf better. It allows me to surf average waves as well as I surf good waves because I have similar speed. We all know that feeling of getting what looks like a good wave, but it doesn't have the juice to really get us going. Performance surfing is all about speed. No spee...

Tom- Gotta factor in the waves energy as well. If the waves are weak, and you're over 200lbs, you better have foam or you're a buoy. When I moved from OBSF to El Porto none of my boards worked anymore. Boards that "ripped " in heavy DOH OB bogged badly in HH SoCal Windswell. And you can't ...

Stoked Big Tony chimed in, becasue most of this is his fault! Few years ago I was riding a 6'x 18" x 24.5"x 18" x 2 7/8" Flashpoint ChopTail. Worked great small to fun sized OH waves. It was the shortest and fattest board I had. Then Will Perez called me (Will is up to demo...

Hey Crox- I never have problem with too much volume once on the wave. Granted, your board has to be made properly. If it's a big floaty cork it's not gonna get on a rail either. And in pumping waves, or waves that break and die out quick, volume doesn't really matter. Where I see it helping is when ...

Great points, Byrn. Comparing a surf board and kneeboard gets a little murky because of their inherent designs. The widest short boards are maybe 20" (think Jordy rides one) but the narrowest kneeboards are maybe 21", and that would be for a small Kneelo. And surfboard noses are FAR narrow...

I'm going big with foam and love it. My new board is 6'4" x 25.5" x 3 1/4 Why? I'm 6'4" and 220lbs. I live in SoCal. Waves for the most part are weak. I don't like to wear fins, or if I do (crowds or currents) I wear fins cut to 3". The volume is what I need to catch waves. Not w...
