I've seen boards with flex as a design element - spoons, Bruce's flex tails, etc. Some of my old Lis Fishes had a wedge stringer that was thick at the nose and ended well above the tail - supposed to allow flex. Witnessed a guy with a carved out kneeboard, maybe a flex spoon, with a sponge stuffed into the deck, absolutely rip big rock when it was going off in the late 70's. Creature? Never seen any serious kneeling on a sponge, but have seen some pretty good DK.
