In the early to mid 80’s I had a surfboard sponsor so I was able to have a lot of boards made. I worked closely with my shaper to get the size and shape dialed in for my boards. I was 6’1” and 150 pounds then. I quit altogether in 1985. Last June, 28 years later, I returned to the sport. The same ba...

Be careful and know fees in advance. Some airlines will open your bag and charge you their fee PER board!

Good luck and safe & happy travels.

I fly Alaska exclusively. So long as your bag is under 117 inches and under 100lbs, it's $75 each way. I usually travel with 4 boards and my bag stuffed to the hilt- never an issue.

I go with 6/4 plus 6 patch on top; 6/4 on bottom- Epoxy over Red foam. Not heavy at all and very durable.

I had a 4/4 epoxy with Red foam and I would go through the glass with my fingers on simple duck dives.

Actually, I caught 3 waves in the final, a closeout, a left of no consequence and a set wave left with 20 or so seconds remaining that apparently no one, including the judges, saw. Not that it would have mattered, I believe I still would have finished no better than I had, since there was no second ...

I have to agree with Walt. Unless you're enormous , that's a lot of foam, particularly since you're going with EPS, which is much more buoyant than PU foam. The volume of your board my have something to do with it stalling out on you. You could easily go down to 2 3/4" (which is still pretty th...

Re: Fly Alaska!

Fly Alaska Airlines! Just got back from surf trip and they only charged me $25 each way for my board. She knew it was a board and only charged me the normal bag fee. Gotta support the airlines that don't rip off surfers for board fees. Good trip. Good surf. Light, grumpy, local crowd. Shhh! You got...

No. None of the divisions are full. Have you run into a problem with the registration process? Oddly, it said the open division was already full on the event page. Here is the quote from the entry page: "The Open division will be limited to 64 entries and is now full. Please enter contact ksus...

I have one of each. I bought the 8mm because the foam used on one particular board was so light I was afraid I would delaminate the deck in a week. Downside- the 8mm retains a lot of water. More so than the 5mm.

Personally, I've never differentiated stand-up spots from kneeboard spots. Locally, I always liked Topanga. If you care to brave the boarder, Baja Malibu in Rosarito Beach, Mexico is a great spot for spitting barrels.

SOUTHWEST EXPLORER

THE NOVEMBER 23, 2013 EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO NOVEMBER 16, 2013. The event will still be at Seaside Reef , Cardiff by the Sea.
That is decidedly inconvenient for those who have already purchased PLANE TICKETS!

Thank you for the update.

I'm not sure what you're seeing, Fish. I still get a 1-2 foot report with good wind all day.
