The airline losing $250 million a day - more than enough to have paid for the salary increases.
It's the waterfront all over again. Trying to break the unions so they can get lower paid workers to do the jobs.

I put my pads as close to the rails as I can without causing drag.
I sand the edges of my pads so they are really thin (1/8"-1/4") on the outside edges.

It's nice to see a board design discussion again. If I ever get to building the grovel board I've had in plans for 5 years, it will be mostly what Headwax said, except I'm plumping for shorter than normal (5'8" as opposed to 6') and twinnies to reduce drag. No leash, fins, wetsuit or boardies s...

Hey Howard, Drop us a line and we can catch up for a "coffee" if you have time. I can also point you at hidden delights of Melbourne like Gog and Magog :-) Actually Cherry bar in AC DC lane is more my style. Chances are I'll get a surf in that week. I'm in Melbourne, so easy to connect for...

Fooj, Good to hear you survived. Proof we don't get smarter older. I did the same thing a few months ago - "there's a dry rock I can run to if a big set comes" As in your case, the problem is that the dry rock got very wet. I started to get washed off, turned and bailed and thought I had a...

There's this thing called unaccompanied baggage that's quite affordable. You have to deliver your board to the airline ahead of time and sometimes pick up from the freight area.
I did this a few times sending boards to contests and bikes between countries.

BTW I met a dude called Gus in the water at Kelso a month or 2 back who reckons he knows you.. there are so few of us in the water here these days the stand-up guys automatically assume we all know each other  When I was staying at Happy Wanderers every winter in the 70/80's and we were workin...

Joel Most likely standup shapers don't have templates for the kind of outlines used for kneeboards. Many will use their curves they have confidence in to pull lines between measurement points. That's why the noses are often pulled. To be fair, the shapers probably sweated to make you what you wanted...

This is a bit OT. when you're stuck out in the flats of a collapsing or surging beast with not tube to pull in to and an impeding lip behind you and a rocky or sandy shelf in front of you. THEN what do you do? Straighten out and bail backwards into the foam, roll over and swim underwater. Your leas...

Why is it that pretty much every injury i have had happen to me is in small waves? Stitchers, fractures, concussions, bruises have all happened in waves 2-4ft. Because you don't want to get hurt in big waves? Probably don't in small waves, either - just more willing to take the risk. On the tube th...

Re: Does anyone know why there will be no kneeboard surfer t

he cant believe how far kneeboard surfing has slipped from the surfing collective I don't remember kneeboarding ever being more than a side-show at large surf events. With dozens of the worlds top kneeriders competing heat after heat for the title, the current system is working well to provide a cr...

IN 2005 on the NS I spent time speaking to a kneeboarder called Gniese ? (never did get the hang of his name) Anyhoo he was around 5'10" and kneeboarded machines that looked like surfboards about 6'6" and 19" wide with the fins placed back- quite a different approach. I'm 6'2" 78...

You can make it as long as you like and loosen it up by moving the fins forward and by grouping multi-fins closer together. Just when you go long and flatten rocker it's hard to get enough compound curves designed in for the board to turn off (because you can't keep adding width). I have a 7'0"...

Last time the Tahitians hooked up with a good flight deal through Air Tahaiti Nui (who were a contest sponsor) and we got pretty good prices. More importantly, they let us bring lots of boards. The Tahitians bussed us back to our accomodation in 3 or 4 old busses (picture 50 board bags tied to the r...
