Post by tsenn »

I've got a new 5'9" quad fish with future fins. Anybody try any different fins than the stock plastic ones? thanks

FINS

Try glass fins they work much better, The flex snaps back making your turns faster, I looked up some future fins and they have glass fins take a look at the specialty fins, FEN full size MR style twin fin height 5 1/8 base 5 7/16 with trailers 3 1/4

I ride a 5"11 quad and I just changed my fin set up and the drive is great.

FCS MR2 base 5 depth 5.75 with trailers GS 3 1/2 by 3 5/8 all fiberglass

What size fins are in your board now :?:

Hi tsenn,
I just put together a 5'10" rounded pintail quad and I chose the futures set up. I use all glass fins that are from The Rainbow Fin Company just south of Santa Cruz Ca. My foreward fins are the R-6, 4.75" tall with a 4.5" base and the rear fins are the R-4, 4.25" tall with a 4.375" base. Originally I went with a smaller rear fin that was 3.75" but it turned out that it was a little too loose so I opted for the R-4's in the rear and this set up seems to work well. Some people use larger fins with great success but these fins work just about right for me. That's the beauty of the interchangeable fin systems, you can fine tune them to what works best for you. Play around with different fins and you'll see what works and what doesn't. Don't toss those plastic fins, you can cut em up and get lots of cool fin shapes to play with. They are really easy to cut and reshape. Anyway play around with different combos and dial it in. Good luck, T Hall.

Hey tsenn, I would try to get ahold of Bud. He has his own templets for glass fins. I just got one of his F2K's, it's a rocket and turns unreal. At least contact him for an opinion. He's the man. Loving my new BLAST !! Hoppo 8)

Thanks for the replies. Yea, I saw some pictures of Bud's fins, they look real nice. The fins I have now are the white plastic ones, 4.5" and 3.5" rear. I know the standup fish riders like the Rainbow LB4 and LB1 and the canard quad setups. I guess it's time to experiment. Thanks again

Change to 'glass fins - get much better response and can push the board harder through turns. The glass flexes and allows you to really drive past where the plastic fins would normally berak in the water.... that's what it feels like...
