got new fish, refined old fish

They never look as good as when you first lay eyes on them, before they've even been in the water.
I'm stoked and very happy about new shooter, got delivered today while I was at work, caused some excitement in the office,
when the deliveryperson came in with this

It's the last iteration of the stream I've been swimming in since the 80's.
widest point opposite the knees, first change I made from more classic slab outline
slightly less rocker than the previous but only toward the nose
fins in boxes end up around ankles, using Eddie Sinnot's fish shape still but have to cut the slots for some flex in these yet, but will try first without. All previous fins had slots

added the fcs as trailers, hey it's a quad

, have no idea how they'll work yet but I'm thinking I might have to get another plug forward of this placement. Have to suck it and see

There's a hard resin edge front to back, concave ~5mm or so through nose to about mid fin box, then flat, then trails off to vee towards each tail tip. I have been told I should let it cure a bit,
whoa major temptation, will see the boys on the sunny coast on sunday, maybe baptism is in order.

Oh yeah forgot, Rails scalloped more than I've done in the past , well just started further up the board this time.
and I'm old sckool in relation to wax, can't get used to pads,
dimensions - 5'6", 23 1/2", 2 3/8", tip to tip 14", fish depth 4 1/4"

but what's a paipo got to do with it. The last time I rode belly down aside from misadventure was before I got to my knees, riding surfoplanes, you know pump up rubber thingy's in the pre-mat daze of the late 60's

I was saying the outline looked a bit like a paipo, not that you layed down on it. And obviously the fins and the bottom add a whole new dimension of refinement to the stick.

I wasn't debating whether or not you were going to knee-ride it.

BTW, those quad fins are ridiculously cool shapes. have you heard of the RFS fin systems? it looks like those fins are modeled after the way the RFS were done (which were copies of Orca whales fins)

See you on Sunday, I will bring my new Flashpoint and Blast F2K fish. Hope we can find a few waves. Looks pretty small here today.

I have got those Mark Richards FCS fiberglass fins in the Blast at the moment, having knocked out one of my original large fins at Wurtulla (blasted rocks).

less thick rail at the tail , I've found gives me better chance of working off it when driving bottom turn, seems to give me a little more control of direction.( since 97)

dunno about the RFS?, I had a pair of these fins on my first fish in about '79, board by Richard Nat Palmer, working for Skipp,in Wollongong and fins shaped by Eddie Sinnot, he called them Eclipse fins (?, help me out here Wakas)
since I went to twins/fish, I've really only surfed with other of these fins that have a couple of cuts in them approx horizontal give more flex. They are concave on the inner, always have been.

Nice board Riq - don't you just LOOOVE new boards. I always get in trouble off my girl because new boards ALWAYS live under the bed and close to me until they get the first pressure ding....which doesn't take long with me.

Yeah - I think ur gonna have to either get a couple of new plugs for the two back fins - either that or get some new glass fins made with the tabs further back on the fin, which brings the fin forward, if oyu know what I mean.

Knowing your surfing you might need the back fins in nice and tight to keep it lose but take advantage of the sling-shot zing that fours can bring..... hmmm, and I think some 3/4 size back fins might be better too.

I'll bring some up for you to play with - could be funny... ooops, I mean fun... laughing with you Riq, honest, laughing with you.... as you slide sideways into the pit on the new board.... tee hee

Splashy, about the rear fins, we'll see.
I wasn't there when Brett was sorting the placement, I could only be in Byron that Saturday and we got every thing done bar the fin position....
he took a guess, I reckon you're right,
my first thoughts were the rear pair way to far back

But I reckon a stand up guy , like my son might appreciate the position, good thing he's on Bruny.
He'd be more likely to take the box fins out and H2 the rear fcses
I'll try it without any at the rear first , as reference,
the boxes are in the same position as the previous boards, they work.
Then wack the fcs's in and see, whether I do

i recently had some made to suit the fcs plugs at fluid foils ballina new south wales australia
ed sinnot used to shape great kneeboards for skipp in wollongong
& now works for fluid foils
i just sent a templet to them & they can make anything that you can dream up
i also surf on these type of fins as fof me they provide an on rail type of ride that is predictable with great drive yet you can still pop spinners when desired
