I'M THINKING ABOUT GETTING A NEW BOARD AND I'D LIKE SOME FEEDBACK
I CURRENTLY RIDE A BLAST QUAD DOUBLE WING FISH. I LOVE THIS BOARD. IT HAS SERVED ME WELL. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT IS THAT I CAN TOTALLY TRUST IT WHEN IT GTS BIG OR ITS JUICY. I NEVER WORRY ABOUT SLIDING OUT EVER IN ANY SITUATION. I TEND TO SURF RAIL TO RAIL - HARD BOTTOM TURNS ETC. . .IN REAL SMALL SURF IT S NOT THAT GREAT.
I'D LIKE TO GET A ROUND PIN FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IN FEEL IS BETWEEN A FISH AND A ROUND PIN, AND OR TRI FIN ROUND PIN OR QUAD. I THINK I WOULD LEAN MORE TOWARDS A QUAD.
I'M THINKING ROMO OR BLAST ROUND PIN.
I LIKE WIDTH TOO PROBABLY WHY I LIKE BUDDYS BOARDS

Assuming you have only one board,might be a good idea to have a spare.
A small wave board ''might''work better than an all arounder in small conditions.One board in the shop,the second one will keep you wet.
Trust your shaper...he knows,tell him what you want to do.

Thanks for those ideas.I think its right on, I bought my board when I lived in Hawaii. It was one of Buddys used boards so it was designed with island style surf in mind ie. big fins. Unfortunately it has glassed on fins, but this has its advantages too - the last Surfers Journal article on fins informed me thus.
I do only have one board and for the most part for up here in the winter and fall it suits me fine, but truly everyone needs a backup stick and this is the idea of exploring getting a second board. I know by the sound of it some of you guys have some incredible quivers and it must be hard to fathom just having one board!
I was thinking of a stubb vector for small waves, but I wonder if it would be too "skatey", and or limiting me to using it in very limited circumstances ie. small summer surf. If its that small and gutless maybe I should just take out a tanker or a sponge and have fun?
How does a round pin differ from a fish in general is it more loose?I mean even for good surf.

tris are verry loose boards...my flashy isnt as loose as my shoelkopf quad but way looser then beelines F2k quad...but his has keel-like fins in the front and my shoelkopf has little side-bites with the bigger fins in the back...

I really like the round pin over the fish in small surf because of the extra foam in the tail; that seems to translate to be with more ability to keep the speed up and go over the flat spots. It also holds more speed going into and through a cutback on a smaller wave. Some have said the tri-fin is a bit looser on a small wave; I'm not sure I agree. I have surfed both a tri-fin and a Stubb quad in small waves and found them both very fun. All the boards I'm talking about here are Blasts. I've been surfing the round pins in California surf for about 10 years now, in 1' to 10' conditions.

I've surfed the F2K in small Hawaiian surf and found it great fun, but that's a different wave from small California surf.

Dumbest mistake I ever made board-wise was selling off that Stubb!!

What size Stubb are you guys surfing (relative to your other boards)? Length? Width? Thickness?
eg my Cleary swallow quad is 5'10" x 23 x 3

Based on everything i've read, a Stubb sounds like fun for next summer.
Any other 'small surf' boards out there?

Lastly, any Stubb's with tri fins? Wonder if this would work loosening up the board in small surf.

For barrels, I've always gone with a tri/swallow set up.

But I've been riding a 6'0" round pin quad (modified with a fifth center fin) and have found the RP to be an excellent all around board especially when the wave face is smaller and slower. I can ride any mush that is thrown.

But I've also rode the RP in waves over 15 foot and it worked well, although I would have prefered a more pulled in nose. After 10 foot I would want a specialized big gun.

Give the RP a try. You won't be sorry.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT I'M FINDING IT HARD TO ACCESS BUDDYS WEB PAGE. ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?
ANYONE WANT TO SELL A BLAST ROUND PIN QUAD FOR A DUDE @ 180 LBS?
