I stand up surf my kneeboards all the time. In my experience any kneeboard rides much better as a stand up board than a stand up board will ride as a kneeboard. My two favorites are a Dean Cleary Gigs model, and Blast Stubb Vector, both of which are 5'10", and I'm 6'3", 195lbs.
I've had two of what I call cross over boards built, meant to be used for both kneeriding and stand-up. They both worked much better as stand-up boards. Based on my experience with Cleary's Gigs model, I'm keen to try his Voltar. If you're not stuck on having a fish, I'd say check this out

Why do Moroccan tree climbing goats make great pets?
a. They'll mow, and fertilize, your lawn.
b. They can climb trees!
c. Goat's milk, cheese, yogurt, etc is pretty tasty
d. The goats themselves are pretty tasty.

Cheers guys!
under 6' seems so short!!!! Years since I've ridden anything close to that short (except a boogie!!).
I'm wearing 6mil ribber most of the year and contending with lots of others in a small take off zone usually.
I don't want to miss all the waves!
Also don't mind the bigger board/ no fins combo so I can decided on the wave whether to KB or stand.
Enjoying all the advice. MB

fish food
The whole fish resurgence thing in the standup community is a bit amusing. My brother Chris took to riding his traditional fish kneeboard in some of the local standup contests about 15 years ago (mostly the YMCA stuff) and got stares of bewilderment. That is until he took off and completely destroyed junky, knee-high beachbreak. He was regularly taking out pretty good stand-up guys in spite of the fact that he kneeboards 99 percent of the time. Some of it was the board - a lot probably due to his contest experience.
