Couple of Greenough quotes.

What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

Couple of Greenough quotes.

Post by KenM »

Thought some might enjoy these two quotes from GG. The first is from an article that was in Surfing Magazine Aug/Sep 1976.
"Everyone surfs different and wants to feel different things from waves so I don't think that there is any limitation on design. It depends on what you want to feel as much as anything. It's just like guys who race cars. Three people may have identical cars and one guy may have his set up for neutral handling through the corner, someone else may have his set up to understeer and the third driver may set his up to oversteer and all three cars go the same speed. It's just what each person wants to feel through the turns. The same thing applies to surfing."
The second is from The Surfer's Journal Vol. 15 no.6 Dec/Jan 06/07.
"If you and I were on a racing team and rode 500cc Grand Prix bikes, what I would probably want my bike to feel and what you would want to feel would probably be different...it's all up to the indvidual operator of the craft, and[getting back to surfing] that has to do with the flow ratio of the fin and that will change all that aspect-in how much it flexes, in how much it bends off. You've got the whole variable of what's going on with the board and how the person rides it...there's no one thing that suits everybody."

Great quotes by GG, Ken. Now if I can just pear it down a bit to answer the next surfer who comments to me, "nice move, now try that standing up!"

Let's see... a potential response:

"I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you... you're SO high on your longboard you have to look down to look up!"

By the time that's sorted out, you'll have bagged the next gem...

The ultimate slap in the face to me Scott, is to do a nice move standing up with your flippers on, it shuts up those stand-up kooks all the time!

Mark, I'm with you on that one. I always admired the La Jolla guys who did that - that would pretty much shut up any standup guy. :P :P

I can stand up on a longboard, but I've never gotten up with fins on.

Now THAT'S a thread I'd like to see (and one guaranteed to tick off some of the crew on this site)...just how do you stand up on a kneeboard with fins on? I know some can do it. I'd love to but I don't ever try. It's like I'm sure I'd just tumble over my feet tryin' it, even though I can longboard pretty well.

Easy enough for Simon and the no-fins crew to do...

The guys I remember seeing doing that were always wearing those original super soft green Churchills. There was even a Churchill add in Surfing magazine with Steve Lis standing on his KB wearing the old greenies.

With Duck Feet one has to throw the front foot up and over so the blade doesn't catch. By the time your up, you're usually out in the flats. Have only done this backside.

Does anyone know where you can find a pair of those soft Churchill greenies?
I'd love a pair!
