What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

parabolic stringers

Post by gene west »

I picked up my new board the other day-custom hand shaped and glassed by local S.D. shaper Mark Schneider-5'7" x21"x 2 1/2" quadfin fish-EPS/Epoxy with parabolic stringer'sParabolic stringers are bolsa wrapped around the edge of the rails, about 2" in, replacing traditional down the line stringers. On a board with parabolics, you lean into the stringer during a turn and the stringer bends, shooting you in the direction your turning = more speed and acceleration through each turn, creating more torque. I haven't surfed in anything over 5' yet, but so far it rocks, really fast and with quadfins (FCS Scimitars, forward set @ 18" from the tail, back fin's set @ 8") this stick is fast, and turns really well!

Sounds hot, get the photos up Geno.

My new Neil Luke Board has been delivered to Brisbane, but I got to wait until Christmas, nearly New Year to get delivery.

Mr. West Iv'e seen those type of boards, never shaped one but they would have to ride differently, cool innovation! I shape somthing similar but a stringerless blank with inserts in the rail about 1 1/2 " in from the rail edge and 1/2 ' into the bottom deck going along the outline as well, it has a different flex and a cool punch out of turns, the inserts are bass wood. I'm really into new innovations in board designs!
made on earth, if it aint you don't know where its made later..............balestar
