stub nose

Post by hansel »

hey,
whats up guys. has anybody made a stub nose board? im in the process of making at 5'9"tri, with the sick hatchet fin in the rear.
I just cut it out with my home made wire cutter, and thought how sick it would look if somebody who hasn't seen a knee board before, with a hatchet and a stub nose. im not talking about a big slash in the nose, more like a 3 to 4" flat nose.
thanks Colin-

Meaning a kneeboard version of something like this?

I made one a few years ago, gave it a nice gondola kick. It went great guns down the line, never nosedived, could peel off a series of reentries efforttlessly as long as there was a lip, and went vertical like Yuri Gagarin.

But... it dies in the arse in cutty's though because the very thing that helps it go vertical aloss reduces the amount of rail line you can bury in a cutty.

In cutty: no rail burial, no drive. Dead.

So it depends on where you will surf it. Depends on the pivot point on the planshape. Probably that will be the wide point. And it depends on how far forward you lean to drive the board.

I guess you will be surfing off the tail with the 'sick hatchett fin"? Maybe you won't have these problems.

But a fin like this will surf pivotal and add to your lack of drive unless you wack it on the tail. But if you do then I reckon your rails and your fin will be fighting with each other.

Maybe you should have a fin with more rake. Also keep the base and take the area out of the middle part of the fin (not the tip, nor the base)
If you really want a step in the fin planshape have it about two centimetres above the base.

My opinions only ............... I was wrong once, that time the bridge I made fell down into the river and all those people got wet and floated away....

How did I go with surfspeak ? :)

Sorry, I shoot off at the mouth, even when my mouth is not loaded :)

Be an interesting experiment. Try it and see how it goes. Looking forward to hearing the results.

Life is nothing without experimenting. Experiments are dreams in 'concrete'.

cheers

(well not really 'concrete')
