Hey knee_boarder!
I'd try to meet up with some guys and try their boards. Hopefully over a few sessions you'll have the chance to try some shorter, and longer boards to get a feel for how length plays in to how you surf.
I'm 5'10" and only 66.5 kg and have a 5'9" Flashpoint that's a couple of years old. That's may be relatively long but it rides shorter than that. Also, it's not too thick so it doesn't ever feel like too much board.
Aye Captain, I'm wondering what more in tune with the wave means to you. If we were bantering on the beach about this we'd probably talk it through a bit better than here. Do you think that a shorter board allows the surfer to ride closer to the hook? Because ultimately we all want to be there. Sometimes waves mush a bit so you need speed to set yourself up for the hook or critical part of the wave.
To me, I surf the wave and want a board that will take me to the place I want to go. Just like we all surf waves in our minds (when we are most in tune with the wave
), we all just need a board that will get us there when we're wet
Also, I believe that Steen's earned the Coach title long before I ever knew him

stone?
Stone? That's what Charlie Brown got for Holloween! I weigh 210lbs. I whipped out my old Robert August kneeboard from the late 70's and guess what?! It fails to carry my behemoth weight like it used to when I was 150lbs and rippin' The Wedge and San Onofre. Now looking for something modern that will work for me. Any suggestions. Southern California swells. Thanks guys.
