Finally got my 6'0" quad in the water with a new center box and fin today.
It works unreal! The quad fins are the typical toed in variety. I rode it for this past season, trying to get the loger board quad set up dialed in. My complaint was tail slide in bigger waves and the lack of being able to punch turns off the rail.
Riding DOH Sewer Peak today with the fifth fin has solved that problem. I'm truly looking forward to riding the five fins in a variety of wave types.

Beeline - The swell seems to be hitting Pleasure Point really well. I caught it at low tide, on the rise. The reef was jacking the waves. Sewer Peak, Suicides (they call it Rockview now) and Lil Windansea were going off. My friend, a 6'2' standup, took a really late drop at Sewer Peak and when he got to the bottom of a set wave, it was easily DOH and then some.
Taking off at Sewer Peak was hard core. With the swell direction and low tide, you had to really move to make the first section..many didn't and paid the reef dance price. But Nirvana for a KBer!
The firefighters are holding the surfing part of their annual Olympics at The Hooks so its packed there. The break at 35th Ave in front of Jack's house, looked like a longboard factory exploded, with LBs strewn from here to Hawaii - if there was a takoff spot, you couldnt' tell for all the bodies.

Spoke to Parksey and ordered the new board yesterday
. 6'1" long x 24.5" quad fin. Never had a quad before so looking forward to the challenge. I will post some photos when it arrives. Now just the waiting although I am really stoked with my tri fin I got off him last year. Heaps of swell around at the moment but stuck at work
. Must be a better way
.

Just surf

Geetee - I just spent my first full year on a 6'0" quad and found it interesitng (I'm an old single fin into thruster rider). Great all around board but did'nt have the 'pop' in certain situations.
Added a center box and a 4" center fin and....... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ride your quad for a year or so and get it really dialed in. Then look to adding that fifth fin........
Have fun!

Just for fun,
here's a comparison of the same move being exicuted by 2 different people on 2 different style boards nearly 15 years time difference.
The board pictured is a 5'6" X 22 1/4" reverse V bottom (V in the front 2/3rds ending with a flat tail) "Butt Tail". The front fins are set at 12 1/2" from the tail.

It's not what you ride, but how well you ride it!
BTW-we don't ride those boards any more.

Howzit Bud?
if your above statement is completely true Bud, why have you become a master of your craft? You seem to be selling your skills short!
would not a good surfer on a good board do better? Perhaps not noticable to the average eye but surely to the surfers themselves and their peers.
on the other hand a quality surfer can do things on a less than quality board - but one would think that it undermines them to a degree
I can honestly say my surfing has improved since I got on a Parkes board - the paddle, the take off and the general feel has provided more tune to work with - my previous board was put together by a stand up shaper - competent but not a kneelo
cheers
dorje
ps - im still looking for a door to put your theories to the test

Have had Lyme a few months and I knew it was effecting my mental abilities and memory. Now that I have been taking antibiotics a few weeks am discovering also was effecting my perception. Just took a look at fins on my board. Looks rather different than before. Both sets toed in same amount (i.e bases are parallel). Front pair small amount tilted out. Trail set maybe vert, not sure, could be very minute tilt. Interesting(OY! Don't get Lyme.)Blast Stubb Vector fins: no T-square to tell for sure but both sets look 90 degrees (perpendicular) to bottom. Front one's bigger with some toe-in and one side foiled. Rear ones smaller, lot less toe-in (but not parallel ot stringer) and both sides foiled.

Beeline,
No, they are towed in a little.
Headwax,
Do you still ride the same kinds of boards you rode 15 years ago?
I moved on to other equipment for fun.
We've ridden a great variety of different board designs over the last 25+ years. The few I offer on my website are just a drop in the bucket.
One day I'll post a list of all the designs, with picture or drawings, that we've gone through.
About the 2 pics above.
In the V-Land picture the wave is hollower at that moment. (and knowing V-Land soon to get more so)
Also it's a more powerful break than Lakey Pipe in Indo.
Believe me you don't want to pearl at the bottom of a V-Land bowl.
Also that V-Land shot is a split second later in the action and he's already slightly further down the wave. Maybe the Simpson kid sat up a bit in the next instant.
Still the shots are remarkably similar. Especially when one was taken in July 04 and the other was shot April 90.

Lyme is one sneaky and pernicious mo'fo! You don't want it. I've missed the bad part (fingers crossed). If you have it long time, which is not hard to do as it is very hard to diagnose, it can be very very hard to cure. Being heads up due to my wife having it and hearing early rumors that it is contagious (now confirmed) I noticed early subtle syppmtoms and took action. "it's all good."I've never heard of getting lymed
