Correction,For us- well, there never was a kneeboard blank. Which is okay, we'll get by, as ever.
at one time there was a kneeboard specific blank from Clark foam.
The old 6’0” kneeboard blank.
When they replaced it, they contacted shapers that had a history of significant kneeboard blank purchases.
They used the feed back from us to come up with a muti-purpose blank suited to most kneeboards and could be used as a stand up board blank for specialty equipment and experimentation.
A new kneeboard blank was offered as a replacement which I shaped.
(I pleaded with them to allow us for 2 different models to use.)
They told me that they wouldn’t do more than one blank for kneeboard use since there was such low demand for them.
They told me to design it to suit a broad range of people.
I have customer ranging from 4’8” X 65 lbs to 6’8” X 380 lbs.
At that time it wasn’t widely accepted due to the excessive volume.
It was 6’8” X 25” X 3”.
Since it wasn’t widely accepted, they had Rich “Toby” Pavel do the next one.
This resulted in the 6’2” C.
I kept rallying for another longer version for us.
I pointed out that Clark had over 20 different blanks under 6’8” for stand up surfboards.
Later, with the rise of popularity of “fun” shapes they saw a market for such a blank.
This time they had enough demand.
With the help of Pat Rawson the 6’9”A was produced.
It was very similar to the one I did earlier.
As good as the old ones were there was problems with them that needed correction, particularly the 6”2” C which was thinner on one side and in one area than the corresponding side.
I’ve contacted Walker Foam about producing new and improved versions of the 6’2”C and 6’9” A.
Still waiting for a response.
Cross your fingers.
