How are you boys? thankyou for the feedback, yep nothing like a new board to stir things up a bit. Yes the "freak" has been a real gem, I've only had positive feedback and any shaper will tell you thats music to your ears. I'll certainly say g'day to Richard Evans for you as its great to with him, he shaped Michael Peterson's board he won the first two bells contests on! We of course hope to see you all at the Island this November with your new teeth. Have a look at PIKB website, it gives a bit more detail about the "freak". The plus with this board is its speed and with speed you can do anything. Stick together boys stay positive its good for kneeboard riding. Yes you can get fibreglass fins for Red X but no the XT1..give us a call if you want some help getting the correct fins.
Cheers lads stay tubed Neil.

Last Sunday was enjoying some nice waves on the Peninsula with only a couple of grommets and me out. One was curious about me kneeboard and asking questions when lo and behold out paddles another dude on a kneeboard...he could not believe it!... making for a crowd of 2 lids - 2 short boards and 2 kneeboards. After a short time the groms headed in for their lunch (a break in the 5 hour sessions these dudes usually have) leaving me and a bloke called Craig to trade waves for a while.

Craig showed me his new Island board which he was enjoying and while different from the freak it certainly was unique - 6'5 - big swallow tail - channels in the bottom... he mentioned that it absolutely flew on a good wave and he was styling nicely from what I saw.

Was good to meet an enthused dude and to see a dedicated design.

Seems there's not a stereotypical kneeboard around...it's a case of choose YOUR weapon and enjoy.

This is my new machine from Neil.
Image
It's 5' 9" 24", 2&1/4". Thinned out a fair bit in the nose and tail as I'm a little guy. Thanks to Neil and all the crew at Island. I love it!

There's been no waves here for 2 weeks, but I managed to catch a few little ones last Sunday. The board smokes! Fast and super smooth. Also, soooo easy to turn! Almost too easy. On the first couple of waves, I managed to throw myself off the board by turning too much! After I got it sorted I had heaps of fun! I can't wait to see what it can do in some bigger surf. :D Typhoon heading this way so the weekend, and next week look good for all the lads over here in Japan 8)

it seems similar to aspects of Parkes designs in surfing it foward....this gleened from the position of the back pads...Red has mentioned Neil and Dave have shaped together so they must share some philosophies

ive recently picked up a 2nd hand flashpoint that is surfed further back that my Parkes..this is taking some getting used to

That's THE board. That's the one raffled at SC World's, which drew lots of drools...

I called back home to make a pitch. The entire package that was offered was unreal.

Is that the one you landed, Jamie?

Anyhow, it was admired by many, and to be enjoyed by one lucky bloke!

I hear the rumours that it was major

but

unfortunately no one is saying....

not that it matters I suppose :(

Hey bob,
The Island board was a part of another package.
I picked up a John Mel Freeline custom and a week at the Kuilima on the Nth Shore.
How are you going with convincing the Boss regarding heading over for a week early next year?
Its the alternate gathering - minimal kneelo's lots of happy families with small kids.

I have just ordered a new freak which neil shaped this week, I need to replace the two freaks that sprocky and the brothers robertson relieved me of before I left Santa Cruz.
Now all I have to do is get Neil to nail the spray so it looks just like the last 6, and the mrs and the kids will be none the wiser that the slacker/daddy has a new board, though they will have to go without new clothes and play with old toys for a little while longer.

Thanks for letting that one go Jamie. I've had a blast on it even in the crappy to marginal surf we've had here since the contest. Aching to get it out in some quality surf to see what it can do at speed.
Why do Moroccan tree climbing goats make great pets?
a. They'll mow, and fertilize, your lawn.
b. They can climb trees!
c. Goat's milk, cheese, yogurt, etc is pretty tasty
d. The goats themselves are pretty tasty.
e. All of the above

Hey Jamie,

That Island board went with that killer location at Punta Mita? Fark! Where's an icon for banging my head against a wall? I wanna be RICH...

The gathering next year sounds like a goal! I'm in early re-hab for my back, so I don't have a return-to-surf date yet... better be by then!

Kim's been talking about the islands with the clan for some time, so, aside from managing the expenses, it should be an easy sell!

Cheers, Jamie!

Mr. Headwax, any Australian kneeboarder would have to be related to a large flightless bird to not be aware of Neil Lukes background in the development of Kneeboarding   .Some guys just dont like to blow there own trumpet.

Is headwax perhaps trying to draw Neil out into forum world to discuss his designs, the development of kneeboards and kneeboarding.
He is probably the oldest commercial kneeboard shaper in Australia, he has been shaping my boards since just before the 2002 World kneelo titles.
I choose to ride Neils boards because he is passionate about - shaping progressive kneeboards, riding progressive kneeboards in serious waves, kneelo contests( he is the founder and driving force behind the longest running pro kneelo contest), families.
The guys he works for at Island surfboards are also happy to work out deals for me that allow me to indulge myself with new boards.
The shaping and designing thing I GENERALLY LEAVE TO HIM, I figure he know what his doing after 30 years of crafting them.
