What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

got a feeling they are the same template but the fg3 is glass (with a foam core?)

downside is that FCS seems to have some trouble with their quailty control with the glass fins - with the tab machining. Tighten them up with a bit of allfoil shoved in the fcs fitting. (will probably oxidize eventually)

Also the Sunny which is carbon fibre (?) - mine split on the tab after a few surfs. Still sits in the box okay. Good for hardish bottom turns.

Took me ages to figure out I was mistiming my re-entries cause of the flex in the FCS fins

forgot to mention if you get composite fins they lagg a lot on turns cause of the limpwrist flex.

Hey wax

something to ponder....i know we mortals are looking for more but...

Heard recently when looking to add fcs fibreglass g7's to my quad that the sparrow surfs on composite...so to Albert

I like the g7's and i needed some extra fins as the thruster came without any...but if simon is on a "limpwristed" set up then, im wondering ...as the song goes..."who the real men are"?....and "is there something going wrong around here"

name of muscian/singer/song writer escapes me at this time

fins fibreglass

Post by stevea »

just a bit on fins i could never find a fin system template that i liked so for the last 3-4 years ive been making my own im only talking rail fins for now and basically they are deeper by 3/4 of inch and slightly more upright similar base.FF With flex, i have had varying degrees in the tip or top 1/3 personally i like a little more some are believers some not im a believer and am in the process of making up a few sets here in bali to 1. supply local manufacturer who has demand for full fibreglass fins 2. to satisfy a need to do a semblance of work, thats not to say i havent adapted to present set up( merricks?)its just that i feel that flex can and does increase a boards performance via injections of squirt the FF provides at the moment you want without lag of plastic not that i can say ive felt lag but i have felt the squirt. The third reason is basic to what im doing here because i like it

Stevea, good to see your doing your own thing, hope you make enough wonga to keep you out there. If you saw the British weather out of my window you would want to stay.

I relate to what you are saying about fibreglass fins. The MR fibreglass set I'm still using have really grown on me. The board goes really quick with lots of bite in turns. Suits down-the-line surfing more than contest up-and-down surfing (suits my style). I'm going to have to buy them now anyway as I caught a rock and damaged the bottom edge on one. Will probably buy a smaller set for smaller waves as I haven't got a quiver.

Hi K-man, thanks for the link. The sites a bit more straight forward than the flashy non-functional FCS site.

Cheers all, friday evening, time for a drink I think :!:

Buy another identical set and take your damaged set, cut them down to a template for smaller waves and re-foil.

Just find a set of small fins you like, lay them on your old fins and outline with a pencil.

Martin,

What you are experiencing is more drive due to added area and lift from the larger template asymetrically foiled fins.

This is good fun in weak waves and lower speeds.

As waves get thicker, meaner and or you are driving harder and faster, there can be a point where this will turn into too much lift, and you'll start to slide out.

That can be managed and fun or it can be a liability depending on the situation. 8) :)

A fully developed agressive riding technique / approach will also reval this.
IE strong, fast, fluid, well rounded driving turns.

The fins that came with your board are a great general purpose temlate and foil combo. (way cheaper too)

The reason those fins appear to have more tow-in angle is because they are FCS side fins set in FCS center fin plugs. That's why the trailing edge doesn't match the pencil mark. The forward pencil mark gots lost when we drill out the front plug. I mark it with regard to the intended fin.
My rear fin temple is smaller than nearly all the FCS ones.

Other customers and team riders have also had great fun with the H2 templates.

But damn, .........they are EXPENSIVE!

Love those fin, but not good in big waves, also fragile and costly.Already lose two pair and thinking twice to buy them again.

I'm planning on take my Rudders Hawaii, (very stiff) fiberglass fins out of my F2K and trying them on my Blast tri, and on a Flashpoint. All I need are some waves.
My Blast tri currently has Occy side fins with a GX trailer.
Any input is welcome.
