Craig I would'nt be so quick to jump on a board just yet.
Im close to your size at 6'1" and 240 lbs.
In my opinion you have been riding nothing but old school
shapes and therefore I think you should stick to something
that resembles what you have been riding but updated.
I personally would give one of Bud's fishes a try if I were you.
Are if your current board works fine in large surf just get you aboard
that works for you in the small stuff. I would suggest one
of Bud's Stubb Vectors for this . Those things you can ride a
boat wake on.

My favorites are the late takeoffs on a hollowed out wall day, and out of shear bordem of waiting for a "good" set, I performed the vaunted 4-5 foot freefall "No Wave Needed" move and then try to execute a bottom turn while looking back up at the lip that is about to hit me in the grill. Good times, good times.
The point that I'm beginning to see here is as I as preached during my motorcycle days, "Skill, increases with saddle time." I need to get my dumb ass back into the water a WHOLE lot more and re-commune with my current design, and then figure out which way to go on a design for the crappy days.

flashpoint
craig,
Went through what you're going through...Figuring out the minute details...
Leave it alone, drive yourself,as well as the shaper crazy
Tell hart what you want to do.The man knows.
I've got two flashes, and a third one on the way, they all go real good.
2ft to doh or as big as I want to surf.
Stalled bottom turns=no speed =no stability=fall off...maybe leaning back on the tail?when you should be leaning forward and projecting down the line?Same deal with a late takeoff, lean forward
cheers

i noticed on my 6'0 squash tri romo i could get over the lip on entry no preblemo (even on the windiest off shore days). the nose had a bit more rocker and the tail width was pulled in much more (like a thruster surfboard). in my 5'8 quad i baRely have to paddle and if i do take off i still stick to the wave face and no need to bottom turn. now with my dean cleary 6'1 tri fin double bump squash i have been having trouble pushing the nose down to get the drop in? no pearls, more the opposite. like i stall in te lip and go over the falls or have to push my way thru the lip to get through. then if i do get down the lip it stalls on my 1st attempt at driving up the face. I am looking at getting a new board and didnt have the input i had when i bought my DC. so inputr is good and may even go with a swallow tail or fish but something for a big guy like me for waves 2-8'
