Ok, whoever moves forward must report back with the results. We had Rob DiStefano's 5'0" softies, which were built for black ball. Mine had O'Fishll fin boxes with Protek fins installed, all OK'd by the El Porto lifeguards. All it took was one woman complaining about us going "too fast", and we were shut down for the season, even with fins removed. Life guards are regional (we've got LA County FD life guards), and I really don't think there's a craft that'll be OK everywhere, all the time. Oh, and by the way, by "we", I mean eqKneelo and me. The Robertson's have the same kind of softies in HB/NP, with different restrictions because it's the OC life guards on patrol.
As far as I can tell you've got to use what'll get you out there for as long as possible before you get denied. This perception was reinforced on the the 4th of July when a neighbor kid came walking back up the street with an inflatable raft under his arm, and sad look on his face. We asked why he was back, and he said the lifeguards had banned all flotation devices. El Porto was so crowded they had made the whole beach swimming only. I don't even know what they call that. Super Black Ball, maybe.
Here are some pics of the softie taken at a dial a board contest, and Bud has (had?) video of Paul D riding his in PR on the Blast site.

Why do Moroccan tree climbing goats make great pets?
a. They'll mow, and fertilize, your lawn.
b. They can climb trees!
c. Goat's milk, cheese, yogurt, etc is pretty tasty
d. The goats themselves are pretty tasty.

Boogie boards--bottom line, are they too soft for kneeling?
Searched and found this thread stating body boards are too soft:
viewtopic.php?t=709&highlight=boogie
Other than the lack of rigidity, has anyone had any experience kneeling on a larger sized body board? Will it work?
Seems with the ambiguity in Lifeguard's 'rules' on what's allowed during Black Ball, a bonafide boogie board would always be allowed (except for el porto on 4th July)
thanks

How 'bout this black ball beater. Description says you can even stand on it, so it 'must' be stiff, yeah?

Now that looks like something that'll get you the most water time in most places. I hope someone following the thread has tried one and can give some feedback.

JL desighns has a strong following at the wedge and sealbeach....i belive JL desighns and ballistic bodyboards make the best bodyboards available....the porpoise looks pretty awsome....
Mik, boogie boards are too soft...but BODYboards have carbon of fiberglass stringers which make the board stiFF....still i can only make it to the bottom double kneeing a sponge..projection is lost once you make it to the bottom...add some protek fins though and youll have better results...
also i think polyproplene and polyethlene(standard BB cores) have a mushy flex and dont spring back like eps or MAYBE xps......ive had awsome eps bodyboards....
sprocky, those boards look sooo clean...do you know any of the costruction details? are they thermo-bonded or chemically bonded? whats the skin material?
Buddy, can you give any details?

You can try going straight to the shaper for details.

And next time I'm down your way you can try it out if you'd like.

That JL Designs Porpoise Board ... ( link above from MIK911 ) ... looks interesting
I have a large BZ body board
memory, which isn't the best most of the time, tells me it's 44 long and 24 wide, no idea on thickness.
compared to the Porpoise it is quite square
I can only just get up on it and it gives me no control but I am a larger fellow at 6'4" and 86 to 90kg (190lbs I think)
The Porpoise looks like it would work better and for small fellows and kids it may work as a kneeboard with the addition of a pair of fins.
They don't say how wide it is.
still very keen on the soft kneeboard even if it doesn't get past the Life Guards
I fear that the soft companies won't bring one
and if they did
it could be very small for us larger fellows
