Rocker/Paddle

Beeline and the Wax,

Rocker does effect the paddle..heaps.

And I think a lot of Aussie shapers were using too much rocker purely to compensate for the amount of conc they were shaping.

But two things..

1. By bottom entry I mean that the straightest part of my rocker is just forward of my knees..this is something that I also feel under my chest when I paddle..(probably coz I don't wear flippers I'm a little more sensitive to 'paddle ability'). So the bottom enters faster because it contains LESS CURVE than anywhere else. This is also where my concave commences..and I'm sure I put them much further forward than other guys.

2. Nose diving SHOULD NOT be solved with nose lift, or curve..because it WILL push water. I surfed with a non-local kneeboarder yesterday (like..just watched him in the water) and every wave he just bobbed up and down to try to generate speed. And 'pumping' looks rooted when kneeboarders do it. The poor guy just had way too much rocker..and unfortunately didn't (I think) realise it.

Pearling to me is more of a rail catch initially. Taking a concave all the way to your rail line in the front one-third of your bottom will help your rail catch. Keeping and old-fashioned 'down' rail line off your deck through the front one-third of your deck line will also help your rail catch.

Wax,

I reckon that if you get your rails right (+ deckline + bottom ) that a lot of lift isn't that necessary..providing you're not surfing something too long for the conditions.

And about 'Bob'?..yeah, could've paddled over but..
