A new paradigm for kneeboards

What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

Is it more difficult to pull a radical kneeboard turn than a standup one?

Red,
Good luck with your article. How? It’s not all mechanics. Talent, conditioning, experience all play a part, as does the most important factor, wave quality. Get a run of good surf and the creative juices get moving. Right now the stand-up world doesn’t care what we’re doing but for one common shape, the fish.
As a kneeboarder if you want to talk and have standups listen, you’re going to have to talk “Fish”. They are crazy for them. Deep inside their brains they know kneeboarders had something to do with their creation, maybe the 16-year-old grom heard it in the surf shop. Of course for them these are “small wave” boards so they are mighty impressed with anyone who rides one in overhead surf. They’re confused about all sorts of things. What is “front footed”? Where do I put my tailpad? Should I buy one with the pretty wooden skegs? What’s the Quad advantage? What’s a cannard and where does it go on a quad? If I kneel can I get back up? What about the “big” fish? Are they better for bigger surf?
I’ve directed surfers to Bud’s website and they don’t believe the pictures. I say things like “This man has been shaping fish for over 20 years” and it doesn’t sink in. They want LINEAGE. So and so had to have learned from so and so and he had to have worked with so and so, till it stops at Lis. The stand-up world is getting stale. Laird did it to them. The dog and pony “world Tour” follows roughly the same business model as professional wrestling. But visually, NOTHING compares to BIG surf.

Harry,
No apology needed, I understood the hyperbole, but I have lots of friends among the "million". I don't consider myself apart from them. We all fight for our waves. Surfing is important to me, but my wife and children are MUCH more important, and on the fast pulse scale firefighting will give you nightmares for days, knock thoughts of surfing right out of your head.
I havn't been carrying the flag for kneeboarding for the last 30 years. I'm a recent recruit from the "faceless" world. I don't understand some of the complaints about performance of craft or self. I don't complain about kneeboarding at all. I'm just happy to be here.

Dropped a 200+ page draft PhD thesis with my supervisor yesterday and you ask... what?

Re-read the thread. Some nice ideas. I may get onto it later this year - after the 2 newies for Hawaii, the flexy one and the book on technique - all while keeping the girlfriend happy. I'm stressin' dude.

I tell you what Andrew - you pick up on this one and I'll owe you one.
