I was just checking the El Porto cam on Surfline and saw an ad for the new Channel Islands model called the Biscuit that kneemor mentioned.

Dimensions and outline are surprisingly close to the kneeboards I stand up surf. Move the fins up and it looks like it'd actually make a decent kneeboard.
I wonder where we're headed. Channel Islands belly boards and handguns?

Why do Moroccan tree climbing goats make great pets?
a. They'll mow, and fertilize, your lawn.
b. They can climb trees!
c. Goat's milk, cheese, yogurt, etc is pretty tasty
d. The goats themselves are pretty tasty.

I've looked at the Biscuit in person and seen a few in the lineup. They have surprisingly little rocker -- probably accounts for the speed in small stuff.Sprocky wrote:I was just checking the El Porto cam on Surfline and saw an ad for the new Channel Islands model called the Biscuit that kneemor mentioned.

Always thought the Greenough designed Wilderness Stubby would be a good dual duty board. Lots of width and relatively short for kneeriding, plenty of volume where needed for standing up. Sadly Wilderness fell victim to the gentrification of the Santa Barbara "Funk Zone".

Wilderness isn't wedged between the Milpas onramp and the 101 anymore?
Took me forever to find it the first time. I was looking for a surf shop and it looked like someone's house with a bunch of crap in the yard.
Gone for good gone, or just relocated gone?

Good point Joe.
I'd say the fish is here to stay. Or would that be back to stay? Not sure if they ever really died off in the kneeboard community, since it wasn't much of a community back then. I sold my spoon decked fish to get my first Wilderness, a spoon decked squash tail tri fin, and rode tri fins until I got on a Freeline quad, and rode those until I saw an Aussie style rounded pin tri. Always up for trying something new. But I didn't get back on a true Lis style fish until 3 years ago.

re: Freeline shquad. Its just the name John put on his new 6'2'" rp quad design that in the shop at this moment. The rear fins are placed closer to the center of the board, giving the board better drive. (as compared to the clusterd 4 fins of a twinzer).
John has a tendancy to come up with names for custom boards he makes (he writes the name on the board with ink by his signature).
When I was getting ready to move to Santa Monica in '79, I had him cut me a 8'2" double wing (wings at 21" and 14") pin tail. I then took two FU boxes (this was before they made the longer boxes) cut off one end on each and made a long box for my twangy 12" flex fin.
John dubbed the board the "Topanga Tangler". Turned out to be a killer design in the days just before the thruster came upon the scene.

To continue on with naming stories, John made the first of the kneelo/standup crossover boards I custom ordered. It was a narrower longer twinzer based on the boards SuperEq had been riding at the time. I believe John dubbed mine the "Flying Fish". I rode it into the ground, and was still able to sell the browned, water logged remnants as a used standup in HB years later.
