Hart,
Coors is bad news. Adolph Coors was a charter member of the John Birch society, a group of rich, hyper-conservative, right wing SOBs who were and probably still are funding many bad, covert things in the US and likely abroad. The term "Capitalist pig" was probably invented for him. My Santa Cruz and Berkeley roots demand a boycott of his products. Plus his beer tastes like piss.
Just the political ramblings of a leftest democratic.

Sorry guys..but back to the beer.
Stemple, after my worst and last hangover courtesy of a Bud (not you Bud..but the beer) I vowed never to return.
Aussue Coopers has no preservatives or colourings or anything..good wholesome beer (is that an oxymoron or what?). I thought Coors was made with spring water and stuff..or shouldn't have I listened to that spunky thing behind the bar? (you know the one..the blonde taking my tips?)

carrots
headwax,
The proof of the pudding so they say..but you have warned me about the sixpences before.
I'm paying attention.
But twists shouldn't be tolerated from any shaper..no matter what they stutter
Although, come to think about it, I quite often stutter about the Coopers, I mean the carrot.

THERE ARE EXCEPTION'S IN SHAPING !!
AFTER KB'ing for over 25 yrs. and trying many shapers i have stuck with very few. i have been riding (my design) shaped by (bill stewart) for over 17 yrs. i talked he listened and applied his very talented shaping skill's to my year's of trial & error. and i have to say he being one of the best long board shapers in the world today and has shaped many kneeboards in his time hit it right on.
ps. you owe me on this one ( MR.STEWART)

Headwax,
I know what you mean about anticipation...got my new Parkes tri rounded square 3 days ago....32 hours to go till I wax it and wet it!
It certainly is a step from what I was riding ... A WizStix 6.0 pin tri that I call the Banana (Wiz is a stand up shaper). I really had to get the outboard on full throttle in small waves.
I rode a mates Parkes and that was it for me.... Ordered one 4 days later.

Don't be stirring me up! I'm on edge already. David finished it before he went to Phillip Island to claim the crown. My mate was up there on the weekend and picked it up for me .....I'd say it's good and ready.
What more could you ask for ...shaped by the national champion. Well done David.

i just came out of a shping room with a guy today, so this thread got my interest.
i've been riding about 34 years, gotten quite a few boards going all the way back to a 60's petrillo, had 2 cleary's from the 70's & one new one 4 or 5 years ago, had plenty shaped by so cal shaper's in between, and have shaped 5 of my own.
the board i finished today with a standup shaper is 95% of what i was looking for, and the only thing that might be iffy are the rail lines. everything else was exactly what i wanted including fin design, placement, and angle. this was my first board from this guy and in 2 weeks i'll find out how magical it is. i know it will work because it's a shape i've been refining for 20 years. my buddy will be on a blast, and we have 3 weeks on the north side of kuaii to sort it out
here's the trick: if you know what you want, you can get it. i respect a shapers time, and i gave him an extra $100 before he started on top of his fair price. i paid extra for a custom blank from clark, and i got out for less than the 500 that i hear everyone pays. i was in there twice over two days after he roughed it out using two of my old boards, to clean up the bottom and rails and set fins (a quad ) so that i get exactly what i'm looking for.
no doubt, a good shaper is a craftsman, and if you're as picky as i am, you have to respect his time and not grind him, but more importantly you have to communicate what you're looking for.
plan B - get a proven board by a proven name and your average odds will probably go up. i've still gotten some weak boards from some top names.
plan C - i turned a pig of a board that sat in my rafters for 5 years into a magic board by cutting off the fins and converting it to a quad and then rode it into the ground ( it was that, or set it up in the yard and shoot arrows into it ).
i've found that a good shaper with feel can give you exactly what you want...you just have to know what it is, and be willing to pay for it.

In my experience the starting point is a decent blank. Any fool can cut out a plain shape and stick fins on it but what happens if the bottom curve is all wrong?
All my boards are shaped by a guy called Elton Fursman. He shapes all of Gigs's current boards with huge amounts of input from him.
My point is that although a non kneeboarder may be holding the planer he is not necessarily the guy shaping the board.

Good Shapers, Good Blanks
Sarj and Duane,
Good posts on this topic. Insightful because of the experience of many years of riding different boards. Have fun in the Islands, Sarj! Welcome to KSUSA.
