Some people have been sponsored in the past, but its usually not very common.

You can always find sponorship but it depends on what one has to offer and what the market is looking for. Surfing is a hard nut to crack......and the luck of a kneeboarder getting sponsored is not very good.

You may be able to find a surf shop owner who will throw down discounts on equipment and a free bar of wax now and then. A wetsuit company may give you a discount on suits. Or maybe Bruce Hart will let you be a 'disaster victim' for one of their EMT emergency drills. Kneeboarders are low profile - both literally and figuratively.

But what a corporate entity wants is media exposure - exposure of their product. Last time I saw a kneeboarder on the cover of SURFER was....

But what a KBer can get out of kneeboadrding is staring at you from your monitor screen. The connnections that you can make right here at KSUSA is your beginning. Its not what you know but who you know.

Show your stuff in the water......you just never know who will be watching.

Back in the day. I had board, wetsuit, and some shop sponsorship. It was fun.

Back in the day (1971-72) I was sponsored by Full Force Surfboards with other riders Nuuhiwa, Lohr and Armstrong. I was the token KBer and received free kneeboards.........all DOGS. I've been on Freeline KBs since.

Yes,
Kneeboard shapers sponsor boards to a few people.
Money sponsorship / product endorsements are rare.

Here's a chance to be sponsored by BLAST KNEEBOARDS and get free boards.

WANTED

HARD CORE KNEEBOARD SURFER

Must not care about abuse from surf bigots who ride waves on different equipment.

Must have a need for speed and do turns that are well rounded, fully on edge / carved and at full throttle when ever possible.
(no squirmy, wiggly, jerky, swishy, arm flailing, flat rotating half crabbed gotta make points approach)

Your lust for surfing well on a kneeboard counts more than your contest record.

Must not be limited to riding just a couple of your local breaks.

Must have the desire to travel and surf a great variety of spots.

Must be adept at riding anything and everything with a penchant for charging as big dredging barrels as you can find / handle.

Must not be afraid to drown once in a while.

Must not mind 10 to 30 minute paddles to outer reef passes.

Must be open to testing new board designs.

Must be open to constructive criticism.

Must not be a self inflated arrogant ass.

Must not have a substance abuse problem.

Must be self reliant, self sufficient, trustworthy.

MUST SPEND A MINIMUM OF 1 MONTH A YEAR FOR 3 YEARS OVER 5, ON THE NORTH SHORE OF OAHU, DURING THE WINTER MONTHS OF OCTOBER THROUGH APRIL*.
*If you stay and surf an additional month or more, you get an additional board.

If you meet these requirements then you will receive 3 FREE BOARDS (plus) each year.

It is also likely that you will be sponsored 1 surf trip (of my choosing), to Africa / Australia / Centro or South America / Europe / Indonesia / South Pacific.

If you exceed these requirements and become a Pipeline (the REAL Oahu North Shore Pipeline), Sunset, Haleiwa fanatic who learns to tear these places to shreds,
then you will receive FREE BOARDS FOR LIFE**.
** This means as long as I am shaping and can afford to give the boards. Also all the designs built for you will be digitally archived on CD. This will be given to you to keep. They can be cut on the DSD shaping machine system. If you are going to travel, you can email the designs to anyone with a DSD machine willing to cut and finish the board for you. There are over 40 machines operating world wide.
You could negate airline surfboard baggage hassles and have the boards waiting for you.

Bud, you left out the most difficult and horrifying task of all. Convincing the wife that this would be time and money well spent.
Now my day is shot. I must start my strategy.
Note to self: buy flowers on way home

Where's Jack?

Lance said that after his retirement he wanted to do more surfing; maybe he is interested and Discovery Channel will release him. Can he wear lycra to surf pipe? He probably will require all is boards be made of carbon fiber and be superlight. His mountain stage bike weighs in at just under 15 lbs. He'll want to bring his girlfriend to the northshore as well. Maybe she can jam with Jack Johnson and Donovan.

In all seriousness the guy rocks and is probably the world's greatest athlete.

I reviewed your criteria and it appears I will be paying for my boards for the rest of my time on the planet.

Martinmurph... at least suggest that she says 'Going down, honey!'

There are some challenges for me meeting Bud's criteria, much like Wino's.

Mine's called SITKOM. Single-income, two... no THREE kids, outrageous mortgage. Caught between a waning job market and increased cost-of-life pressures.

Heck, it's to be expected.

Spending a month in the islands would be dreamy.

I'm just in the wrong demographic. I'm resolved to surf as much and as hard as I can. It keeps me sane.

But, it's a gaunlet laid down, and a stake in the ground.

But... c'mon Bud... HOW'Z ABOUT A LITTLE BREAK IN PRICE for close-qualifiers? Pllllleeeeeeeeaaaaazzze? Pretty please?

Seriously, it's great to see it out there as a challenge. Big shouts to those that meet them!
