Concept of Board within a Board

HYa,

Had my all rounder for about 2 years now and it's nearly time for me to order another cause of dings etc...

There's nothing wrong with my present board design wise, but for the sake of progress/variation-on-a-theme I've been thinking about this for a while - the idea of a board within a board.

My most popular longtime wipeout (because of inadequate surfing ability) is to whack the lip in a reo and freefall straight down, down down, all the way through the water surface and all the way to the sandbank  Yep I know I can put a bit of an angle on my descent to avoid the problem, or transfer weight to the tail by extending my legs, but I'm lazy or stupid.

hence this question.

I'd like my exact board with another say three inches added, not to the centre, but to the nose. Bit like a gondolier nose (or 1970's summercloud boards if anyone remembers them) - call it the Gerard Deperdeiu model. (Or the Cyrano model for the francophiles amongst us)

The idea would be that the extra nose would be as thin as possible so it wouldn't change the balance of the board, nor the flotation - ie it should paddle and ride from the same spot and consequently not effect the gradual rocker approach with its attendent advantages.

The nose would only come into play on those steep pit dives off the re-eo.

Any ideas?

Am I dreaming here, or given the ability to carve it out of available blanks, is it going to work? Or am I going to push water anyway because of some unseen phenomena?

Will I need to add reverse curve to the nose planshape to keep it out of the water during rail turns?

And what about the uggliness factor.

Genesis: in 'old' videos of Kyle Bryant I've noticed that he rides a fairly long board, yet the length during the ride when the board is flat, is underutilised. He in fact, could be said to be riding a "board within a board" - in a way I suppose the same could be said about most of us.

thanks in advance

Basil

zorro heres an idea a nose within a nose or chine its a mitchell rae inspired design from outer island what does it do and how do you do it well basically what i did on both my boards and stewart irwins was to increase nose area slightly then chine the rails back to around 18" creating a narrower nose at the inner edge of the chine this proved to be beneficial in many aspects as you will find if you give it a go if you dont youll never know ,but ive been happy with this aspect of design over the past few years with the only negative is the board takes a little longer to shape but neither the glasser or the sander complain ,will try and posta photo .stevea

Hi Stevea

Nose within a nose.

Great idea, using the chine.
I can see where you are coming from.
A "step" up from a nose vee?

Pictures would be great to confirm though.
