nice pic of ernie there
when you glass a fin into a board you use strands of fibreglass (say about 20?) just longer then the fin base. You used to be able to buy a clump of these strands - called
you soak them up with laminating resin, then use your fingers to smooth them around the fin base. It makes the fin stay on the board. (most of the time)
AKA flange and a sort of smoothed down flying buttress .
If you do a bad job they look like gargoyles (no drainage tho)
sorry offtopic

rovings are a longitudinal strand of fibreglass of a predetermined weight..
usually sold in long-length-rolls, say 150 feet (or more)
in kneeboards they are used in applying glass-on fins (with additional layers of fibreglass cloth) and at the intersection of flextail-section and foam (in the case of flextails )
some guys have tried to overcome snappage in stand-ups by routing 1/4" deep grooves in the bottoms of their boards (parallel to the outline) and sinking in rovings at the same time the bottom is laminated
rovings have also been used to form leg-rope bridges where guys haven't wanted legrope plugs (or indeed, the plugs wouldn't fit)
on topic
OAM as a 'system', has been the only fin device that I have EVER been recommended by professional surfers (albeit..standups)
The system, didn't feel like a system to them
I guess however, it was just the componentry (and not the thought)..that let them down

Back to original topic: Curved FCS fins
Would you guys recommend these in the front or rear of quad set-up?
and Why?
What's the theory on purpose of the front vs rear fins? do the front fins provide traction on wave face AND directs water flow towards rear fin?
If so, what's the purpose of the rear fins?
ie why not twin fin set-up.
If Curved fin is used in front, then a SMALLER rear fin, and vice versa?
thanks

i prefer a twinfin with finlets set up that relieves the responsibilities of the center fin to the finlets. all fin experimentation and design is welcome. ill try to post a photo of my fin system
