Gary Maisch Kneeboard

Post by tomway »

I picked up a pintail try with very mild bumps behind the side fins in Kuta a while back for about 30usd. The logo proclaims it is a 'Wedge' surfboard.

I googled the names and came up with an ebay ad for longboard fins. Apparently the Maisch family are long time South-African surfers, but the advert had a UK stamp on it. Has anyone heard of Gary Maisch? Is he a bonafide kneeboard shaper? Anyone ridden one?

Any info much appreciated.

skansand, to be honest I only tried it once quite a while back in smallish but fast rights at nusa dua. At the time it felt horribly sluggish, but I was mainly riding very low rocker single fins at the time that would glide fast in those conditions. I'm wondering now whether I was quick to judge and just need to alter my approach to riding it, or whether it is in fact a dead-dog shaped by a non-kneerider.

Anyone?

I remember the Maisch family from S.A. Good surfers - no kneeboarders. Wedge was a reputable brand, but again, no kneeboarding heritage.

I suspect you have a "mini surfboard" (a kneeboard shaped by a shaper in a standup paradigm).

Thanks red - pretty much confirming what I thought. After riding CC's flashpoint for a wave in Bali (a completely new experience) I'm really keen to get a 'real' kneeboard shaper to shape me a board. Now if stevea can find a good shaping bay in bali maybe I can persuade him to make me a new earthrise. Steve?
