ok im sure there arent that many of us in the 3 plus club (about 6 or 8 come to mind) so how about includingthe 2 plus people also.
so I was wondering what if any input could be had as to a board shape for a big boi like myself(6'6", 310). And lets say the type of surf is 0-8' poor to fair shaped surf. with an emphasis on 2-4'
would a pin tail be better than a swallow or a fish. whats the deal with a diamond tail? I know im sounding like a total noob but it seems like since i have become a bigger guy i have had to sacrifice floatation for performance.

I had to put that through the google calculator to see how big that is in cms and kilos, and I have to say, that ain't big boi, that's freakin huge boi! I take it you don't get many people dropping in on ya.
kava for someone your size id say 6'6 - 6'8 ,24"-25", lots of volume, and 3 inches thick!!....2.5" minimum.......
being 6'6 and 225ibs im finding i CAN make 6'1sx23" work for me in good waves ...but im guessing ill find a magic board in the 6'3X 24" for RIPPABLE surf....6'4 x 22" for hollow surf.....
like i said, for us big guys, volume is our friend... pintails work great in hollow or powerful surf., a swallow tail will add volume while allowing the board to excell in hollow surf as well..diamond tails add volume and will be looser then a swallow...

I'm not that big but I'm close. I'm 6'1 or so and 265 lb. I've only ridden the Flashpoint "Blue Bottle" Mark sent me, but I would definitely agree that "volume is our friend." I can paddle it fine with flippers on, but I think it would benefit from more thickness (and perhaps less length). I would probably be able to paddle it without fins easily if it was 2.75"-3" thick rather than the 2.5" that it is.
That's just from an obsessive-compulsive perfectionist design-standpoint though.
Really, I'm stoked as much as can be on it. Its a great board; I can't believe that Mark let it out of his hands! I'm glad you ride spoons Mark, ha! The fins-forward concept is great. You don't have to grab rail to turn if you don't want to, and if you do, that's fine too. It doesn't "fight" you on the snappy turns.
By the way, are there any stocky, or short and heavy riders on here? Because I was wondering what equipment you all prefer. I would think that for the shorter rider--who would probably prefer fins--that shorter but much wider and thicker would make sense (2.6"+ thickness, 23"+ width and BELOW 6' length). Am I right?
I'm 6'4" and 260 lbs (had to go the conversion thing as well). I ride a 6'3" L x 24 1/2" W x 2 3/4 D. I'd say with your extra dimensions Skansand is right on the money with his recommendations.
My boards are the swallow-tail "Freaks" shaped by Neil Luke. I know he shapes a lot of boards for larger guys and we're all really happy with them.
well I am a flashpoint man now but thanks for the recomendations thats what im looking for. I was sort of hopeing that bud and bruce would chime in as well as big tony and moot. but its only been a day. ska your in the 2+ club? lol but your so skinny heh heh!

"volume is our friend".....its a Rusty pfeifendorfer quote from surfer mag....he reccomends the BIG BOY standups to use 23" wide as well to get more curve...
Kava last time you saw me i was 220...then i let myself go to 235 !!...beers and bowls lead to soda and fast food ....but ive cut WAY back on all of that....and im getting more exercise now too...feels goood
