Howdo.
I have a Parkes 5'10"x23"x2 1/2 tri-fin which can be seen here:
album_showpage.php?pic_id=9990
It's now a second board as I've now got this:
album_showpage.php?pic_id=9989
Anyway, cause I'm a chunky chap, the Parkes is a bit under sized for me. I currently have FCS MRX 78 twin fins on the sides with a small box fin in the middle. However, it bogs down a bit with me on it.
So... To get to the point, I was thinking of sticking on a Starfin in the middle with the aim of creating some lift (assuming I can find one). However, I'm a bit concerned that there's a strong possibility that this is a crap idea!
I like the Parkes. I steep, wedgy surf it just drops neatly into pits and the big side fins and squash tail give it a nice grippy feel but I need the lift to get the hell out of there before I get nailed!
If it won't work, to be honest, I may as well sell up, but that'd be a shame.
Thoughts very welcome.
Cheers

Don't know your size, but,Kind of know what your saying.[I ride tri's]Generally run al merricks or occys as rail fins, put in a small center fin and the board loosens up....But loses drive/projection.Put in a bigger center fin and the board has more control and drive.Tried any other fin combos?

Well, I thought about a cut-away longboard fin and going smaller side fins which I used on waveskis in the past to good effect but this won't help with the lift I need.K-man wrote:Don't know your size, but,Kind of know what your saying.[I ride tri's]Generally run al merricks or occys as rail fins, put in a small center fin and the board loosens up....But loses drive/projection.Put in a bigger center fin and the board has more control and drive.Tried any other fin combos?
Here's the Starfin so you know what I mean:
The big fat wings provide lift. Horan used it on TINY boards allowing him to effectively skate on waves. These days, I understand they're usually used by long boarders who put them in backwards to pull the tail down and aid nose riding.
If I did do it, I'd probably bee to go smaller on the side fins.

yeah - i had a swing at them too in the 80's on the reasonably fat waves of Pt Cartwright on the sunny coast. it made my board track until it was really pushed and finally it just flew around. all a bit unpredictable for me. I didn't notice any real "lift" of the board but the tail rode a litle higher. as the coach says - they'd make an ugly scar!
maybe try smaller fins so it flips up onto the rail quicker and that is your major driver??!!!
its a shame to sell a board you like, but as its your second, get Chris to do you a complimentary board to your number one!!! its only money!!!

Well, the one I saw on ebay went out of my price range as I guess they all will for something that's a real long-shot.
I guess I'll hang on to it for a while as it is OK until I can afford to get something gunnier than the fish done.
Funnily enough, my girlfriend expressed an interest of giving it a try last night (she bodyboards) so it'll be loved and stay in the family by the looks of things!
