New V-Duck Feet fins

Post by T Hall »

Always curious, I got ahold of the owner of Ebodyboarding.com and asked about the new V-Duck feet fins. Turns out that the V-Ducks are just a cut down version of the original. Voit took 2 inches off of the blade and gave them a splash of color. Thats all. Since they don't carry the new fins in XXL Jay Reale, (owner of ebodyboarding), suggested to cut 2 inches off of the blade and I'd have the same thing...........Didn't Greenough do that a long time ago? Later, T Hall.

V Duck Feet

Post by Mark Ramirez »

Yes, George did this many years ago with duck feet. He cut off the tips of a new pair, then bend them to have them flexable. There are pictures of it on this site.___________Mark R.

Hey bro what do you mean by bending them to make them more flexible? I mean how does one do it?
I have a brand new pair of duckfeet and thay are so stiff.
If there is a way to soften 'em up without me having to harden up my soft feet and leg muscles!!??

I think George also strengthened the straps with some carbon.

It is worthwhile remembering that he is about 130lbs and so there is a power to weight ratio for him, as distinct from others. For instance I am about 200lbs, when I showed him my Pro Force Fins he talked about how stiff they were. But for me, with solid legs, they work fine as I gernerate a lot of power through my legs.

George talked about drag which is another reason he trimmed the fins. It is also worth considering that he rides mats, his style is all about reduced drag. I ride spoons so my body starts deeper in the water.

I used to suffer with cramps in my feet, so longer with Force Fins because of the open foot.

Lots to consider, lots of fin options ....

In the end it is what really works for you and your body shape, height, weight and what you ride.

Mitches in LaJolla also has the V-Ducks. These appear to be regular duckfeet with a couple of inches lopped off the blade in a blunt cut. Same mold, same rubber, different colors. If you have a spare set of duckfeet you can make your own.

i have a pair of v-ducks that i broke in at salt creek. they were comfortable, and i did like the shorter blade. i didnt notice any less power, yea you could grind your own, but as we all know old fins are only as good as the strap. i got a good price at alternative surf in seal beach. i dont know of any other solution for leg and foot cramps, only stretching, lots of it. frog house has them as well.

Calf raise exercise is a great way to strengthen along with the stretching.

there is this leg raise exercise called the" muncie" its to increase strength in the muscles around the knee. injury prevention is what keeps us in the water longer! it stretches the calf as well.

Stoney, can you describe the "muncie" for us or do we have to go to Indiana?

if i remember right your foot is pulled back and pointed outward then you do leg lifts with a straight leg. as many as you can take. the doc showed me this when i blew a knee skateboarding. he said it would strengthen the muscles around the knee, as my rubber bands are loose.
