Pulled out some old boards. From my first earthrise through HB Wayne Hutch, Albert's boards then to many years of Peter Daniel's (Division).
One of the common threads they all had were the front fins were big in comparison to the Redx X4's I'm on now or the fcs. The front fins had more hight, base and rake. The short boards had a somewhat smaller third fin, (still almost as much hight as the fin system fins just shorter at the base and less rake).
The pictures on this site of the Drift boards inspired me to experiment and shape the base of the old fin box fins so they fit snug in the redx plugs. (yet to surf them)
What sort of third fin do the drift boards have?
When people went over to the fin systems did they feel the larger third fin made up for the smaller front fins?

FP, I'm curious how you're secureing those fins to the RedX boxes. I have a board with those and have been considering having them converted to Lokbox due to availability of various fin options. Thanks.

KenM, My old boards had three old style boxes on each.
I just re shaped the portion of the fin that used to sit in the large box to replicate the redx plug. Then I cut a small square out of the side of the plug to insert a stainless steel nut and and glued it with epoxy. The plug portion now looks just the same as the redx. Only problem I couldn't get as much cant as the redx.

I've found smaller front fins (FCS) and same size back fin works well. Older school boards with bigger front fins (MR template size) work better with a smaller back fin (stabiliser).

Good to see someone mention Peter Daniel (Division)...still have my 5'10 5 fin Divsion which is about 13 years old but still goes good...

Does Peter Daniel still make Kneelos??..

Yes, Peter Daniel is still shaping kneeboards. I swear by them. Even cross the bridge for em.
