Hey Guys,

Showed up 10:30 pm Fri. and got an early out spot with a full camp and a waiting list. The ranger said that we had to be out by nine a.m. Woke up Saturday morning to find a mini kneelo gathering two spots over.( I got to check my messages.) Then being #30 in the camp lottery on Sat. we took our chances and hung out in day parking until 3 for camp call. With 20 spots available and 11 no shows at the call, a spot was ours. My wife and I were feelin pretty lucky. The surf was eegh well small but we all still got some little barrels. The weather was awesome sunny and hot. Big Fred among others got toasted. 8) Thanks again to Tom for gettin me to paddle out on Sunday a.m. for a few cold ones.(I was headed back to bed.)Also for the knife. Good to meet Mike Fernandez all the way from Pen. Hey Mike I actually saw Paris up close once downtown. She had a huge zit on her cheek. Chuck, Chito and the rest of the boys were all havin a good
time despite the small surf. Like I always say "Its about the trip. Good surf is just gravy."

Cant wait to see the pics. :D

Hey Fred P. check out lancecampers.com for the info you need.

Jalama was one of those destinations where local surfers in mid and south Santa Cruz County went for their first 'real' surf trip. I think mine was in 66' or '67.

My wife's family drove up from Santa Monica in the late 50's/ early 60's to camp, fish and body surf (they lived on the beach in Venice and are all hot body surfers). Have a blury photo of them with their green woodie at Jalama.

My wife and I have camped there more times then we can count. Once we took our small cjhildren down for 3 days during Easter vacation and one morning it hit an all time low: 28 degrees F.

A cup a Jalama store coffee in the AM and a Jalama burger for lunch. And we won't even get into the mushrooms......................
kbing since plywood days

Good to meet you too Jim, had a grrreat time at Jalama. Met some other old friends I hadn't seen in 20 years. Epic camping location. No wonder it's Freddy Peterson's hangout! 8) Got a few good photo's to post when I get back home. :D

Really glad to hear you guys had a good time, and bummed I missed it ( although I did get some fun waves down south instead)
You made it out of there just in time too. That stretch of Hwy 1 is now closed due to what they're calling the Cemetary fire, which started behind the Lompoc cemetary.
Why do Moroccan tree climbing goats make great pets?
a. They'll mow, and fertilize, your lawn.
b. They can climb trees!
c. Goat's milk, cheese, yogurt, etc is pretty tasty
d. The goats themselves are pretty tasty.
e. All of the above

Anyone ever sit up under the train trestle when one of those mile long freight trains goes over? Awesome!

The Cemetary fire is contained and Hwy 1 to Jalama Rd is open again.
Just in time for that new south I see forecast on wetsand. :)

Cementery Fire

I just left my campground at 3:00pm on Monday the 20th. On the way up the canyon I saw some smoke and as I climbed further up the smoke looked like it was just around the corner. Well it was around the next corner the CHP held me back until a plane flying over head droped his load of fire retardant on the flames. It was all worth the wait. waves were 3' to 5' with the winds blowing from the EAST and the water a tad warmer then on sunday maybe 61 deg. YEAH! Oh thanks Jim for the info!
