It could be that you need something STIFFER, not bigger. Have you tried the GAMs in the new Fiber Glass composite construction? Wetsand has them for $40. Much more drive than the silly plastic, and much less $$$ than carbon or the FG series fins.

I bought a pair of the glass composites for my newy, and I tried the left over plastic GAMs on my small wave board, and thought they sucked. I was looking for something fiberglass to get that pop that FG gives you, talked to my local surf dealer, and he suggested that the template and foil didn't matter as much as stiffness. I tested his theory by putting the glass composite on my small wave board, and the stiffness really did matter -- same template and foil, but much more drive from the stiffer material. When you compare the stiffness of the plastic vs the fiberglass composite, you wonder why anyone would surf with noodles for fins.

Hi Beeline
I weigh in just under you..but the easter eggs could be telling
I ride my flashpoint mostly as a thruster (rather than tri) with GR's on the outside without problem, though I have not ridden it with GAM to compare
the centre fin is a g7000 fibreglass
I dont have the board set up for tight surfing but for drive and more drawn out turns at Bells or the heaver breaks at 13th, my local

Beeline..thanks for the postBeeline wrote:
It seems the amount of spiral vee loosens the tail considerably such
that the toe in of the side fins becomes a determing factor towards
board direction when your on a bottom turn.
Because while doubt still exists..positives still await
Technicality- The spiral vee loosens the bottom..it's the pin that loosens the tail
I must apologise for this Australian approach to surfing..like looking 4 the lip
Bottoms (of waves) are always there..
Its just you gotta go looking for the rest

PS
If you've got the bottom that will go vert..you just have to choose the right outline if you want to project at the same time
That way, you can find a lip anytime you want
Or don't

My turn!!
Check out the pic: album_showpage.php?pic_id=6913
Been out twice now. The board is different from anything I've ever ridden and really takes off when I give it a little lean
Thanks Darcy, Joe, Curtis....and Bruce!!

fins for flashies
i am 95 kilos and with my 3 flashies 5'9" 6' 6'3"
i use FCS mark richards [blue] fins [$120 in aust ]
they are huge compared to most other fins available
they give fantastic drive yet you can 360 spin them .
they may not be for everyone as you do need to drive them & they load up the FCS plugs & could lay the fins flat on late slideslip drops .
if you can get a set on loan from a shop i can recomend them .
best regards scott

I am a Flashpoint convert!! WTF!!! I took my flashy out for my 1st ever ride on it (or any Flashpoint for that matter). whoa! I am gettin a hard on just thinkin about it. took it out in 3-5' beach break. oh man where did all this speed come from and the ability to drop in and stick to the wave face and keep the speed! heh heh I have been missing out!
Oh yeah and then there is the suprise i got from riding a bit closer to the nose lol i took off on this left and was riding a little up on the board when all of a sudden it wanted to do a flat spin I had to plant my arm in the wave face to keep it stable! but it was so freakin kewl! I had so much fun! I feel some serious shreddin coming my way soon! I also think i will be riding the fins forward design from now on. Bruce i had heard you made a great board! but now i know you do from personal experience

Flashpoint
Beeline, what do you mean by 'kite'?Beeline wrote: Its a really good board!!, but it has a distinct tendency to
want to drift or more specifically 'kite' on a bottom turn directly to the top of the wave.
I'm still using the standard GAM side fins on both my Flashpoints with a G5 trailing fin. Works good for a heavy (225 lbs+) guy like me. No spin-out or uncontrolled drift problems here.
